GUIDE TO THE MOY BURN NAME OF RIVER: Moy. WHERE IS IT?: West of Scotland, off the A86 North of Fort William and Spean Bridge. It flows into Loch Laggan. PUT-INS/ TAKE-OUTS: Following the A86 heading East the Moy is crossed about 3 miles East of Loch Laggan dam. There are a few other steep ditches on this road, the Moy is on a fast piece of road and can be recognised by a long steep rapid that flows under the A86 road bridge. To get to the put in, simply walk up the hill, crossing a deer fence through the gate, keep going until the river flattens. APPROX LENGTH: 1 km. TIME NEEDED: Less than 1 hour. ACCESS SITUATION: Probably not a problem, there are no nearby houses etc WATER LEVEL INDICATORS: Needs a bit of rain or snow melt to bring it up. GRADING: 4 to 5 depending on water level. MAJOR HAZARDS/ FALLS: Falls, sharp rocks. GENERAL DESCRIPTION: A fun, steep, narrow little ditch of the pool drop variety. We counted six main falls with a few other minor drops. A few small ramps lead to the first drop which lands in a confined pool. The second drop is smaller but pinny with a stopper at the base. A 2 metre drop follows which then leads to the next larger drop under the deer fence. This looks pinny but ran OK. The fifth drop is into a deep pool with grabby hole, this leads into the main event which is visible from the road bridge. This is a long twisty drop over ledges and ends in a pool under the bridge with rocks in the base. OTHER NOTES: CONTRIBUTED BY: Bob Evans. |
