Symonds Yat

Postby Logical Progression on Tue Sep 03, 2002 5:18 pm

I got my new Dagger ID on Saturday so I went down to Symonds yat last night with my new boat, and was very impressed with the wave at the top (I never thought I'd say that about the yat).
It has been changed for the better, you can now pull off spins and blunts. It was superb, far better than I expected.
Does anyone know how long it has been like this? I may even venture down there again this week!

Surely this is a wind up

Last time I saw the Mighty Symonds Yat Rapids ( about this time last year)they resembled a small ripple. It would a lot of playing with big rocks to create a good wave although there is plenty of volume (when its been raining) that could be harnessed.

Quite true

Postby Mike J Kelly on Tue Sep 03, 2002 8:44 pm

Set off for the Yat last night with half-hearted enthusiasm expecting a dribble over the top rocks - but no ... someone has indeed spent a lot of time and energy on this wave. Been padling at the Yat for perhaps 10 years on a regular basis and this was by far the best I've seen it. Spent two hours with our Joe who was blunting and spinning himself into oblivion! Paul's new ID is a fine looking boat and Sara kindly swapped her new Showdown for my outlaw for half of the night - if only my feet weren't so big!
Not the Rab but hey it's just down the road!

No pictures as yet but I'm sure I can take some early next week, if it's still the same.

Let's not exaggerate!

I have a picture of my bruised thumb. Next time you visit chuck a few rocks on the walls to help.

Planning permission has been applied for so things are moving forward but it will be a lot better when the diggers come in.

Who is going to the Tryweryn this weekend?

Robert

p.s. if you enjoyed it remember the fund is still open for donations

Timbo, where are you travelling from?

My daft brother has booked on a course this weekend and AFAIK hasn't managed to arrange a lift (or a driving test) to get him there yet! I'm surprised he hasn't asked here yet, I'll need to give him a talking to!

Should be a few and also better ones after work is complete. For now it will only last until the floods take the walls away again. The first few days of higher water are always reasonable for intermediate paddlers.

Robert

Symonds Yat has nothing to do with the T but I was interested. Sorry to confuse.

Me and Sara will be at the Tryweryn on Saturday, were both on courses on the Sunday. Sara on the ladies river running and me on the blunts and spins course.

But going back on topic what has been planned for the mighty yat?

Symonds yat

Well I was their a few months ago when the water was not super low and there was nothing there.

It is only since the water has dropped that the wave has formed.

I think people could be led to belive this is some awesome site when in reality it is still only just over a foot deep and a few feet wide.

Once the river is up then the walls should produce some good waves but we'll have to wait to c.

Also new big hole been created on the Dart!!!!!

New hole on the dart

Its between holne weir and the get out. Basically the old weir that was their has been modified greatly and looks to create a kicking feature but only rain will tell!
