Speaking of access at Whorlton Lido, I took this the other week:

I wonder if paddlers opened up a gap in the barbed wire!?!

Latest tactic:

We paddled the Conwy yesterday, and as mentioned in another thread, one of the tyres of the car left at the top was let down, this also happened to a car belonging to another group. Mr. Williams was seen several times, but funnily enough did not approach any of us at any time.

I just wish we could think about what degree of anxiety and threat this gentleman must be feeling to spend his time patrolling his land and risking confrontation with young male strangers. Unles he suffers from severe psychosis there must be some reason for it. What would it take to make any of us behave this way? People get very angry when they feel powerless.

How funny. The day that the incident happened that started this thread I had a nail in my tyre at the get out. I didn't mention it as there was clearly no proof that it had put there by Williams. However a trend is emerging. Was it let down or punctured?

I am not going to read the entire thread as it is quite long but I find it incredible some of the the things that have been mentioned. Most kayakers these days appear to have cameras and video cameras on them for paddle trips I would suggest that evidence be taken by recording confrontations and incidnces of criminal damage to car tyres etc.

I was on this trip and have been told this isn't the first time this has happened to an MCC member, only last time the valves were removed, I believe that both incidents were reported to the police. We were parked in a public lay-by. For people who kayak the conwy in the future: take a pump and spare valves.

Some of you may know of the harrassment we suffered on the Swale, one of the options we were offered as a solution was an ASBO, as were public order offecnces. In the end, we have gone down the Harrassment route. It seems to be working at the moment.

I wonder if Mr Williams, or his henchmen could be caught on camera could an ASBO applied for in this instance, banning him from frequenting the places where people park?

I was thinking the same thing yesterday, next time I'm down there I'll have to hide a camera in the trees next to the lay-by

Mr. williams if you're reading this, you have been warned

He patrols the whole road, the lay-by is near the get-in next to a bridge (its difficult to explain) there is a footpath up to the river right next to it.

Cars should be safe next to the cafe where the nice lady works
