Winner! Looking forward to it already.

Also, excellent safety feature having the Moriston on the Sunday, hangovers are excellent for stopping people getting on the river and buggering themselves up!

I hope it's a suitably sexy party theme....

Arrangements for WWPF 2008

Postby neilfarmer on Tue Jul 22, 2008 12:32 am

First of all, I would like to appologise for the delay in getting this information out, but we are under-volunteered and hampered by the (later than we hoped for) confirmation of the release dates. Same excuse as last year, but I would hope that these things will change in the future....

So, for 2008.......,
This year, we are going to follow the format of the previous 2 years events. The ticket price will be £15, available in advance, in a few days/a week from the SCA website, the Friday evening event will be the Ice-Factor, Kinlochleven (subject to final confirmation), the Saturday at the Nevis-Centre. Saturdays paddling will be at the Garry, Sunday at the Moriston. We are currently looking at the entertainment arrangements, and will post them as soon as possible. However, I will be in BC, Canada getting very scared for the next 2 weeks, so, updates may be slow....
We will look into the possibility of a campsite that we have forwarned in the Fort William area, for the Saturday night.

Proposals for future events
We were very interested in the feedback on other threads, and do aim to hold the event at Invergarry next year. We need further support in the way of organisers, but time will be a great helper.

Again, sorry for the delays, and please pass this information around all of the canoe clubs in England/Scotland/Wales/Ireland/NIreland and further afield! We wish this to be an inclusive event, and would ultimately hope to expand the current numbers! Rivers and sections are availlable for paddlers of all grades. We will try to get posters in local shops/centres and clubs, but if you know of somewhere that can help us advertise this, please get in touch.....

Online Sales for the WWPF 2008

Postby neilfarmer on Wed Jul 23, 2008 8:42 pm

Right then, you can pre-order tickets for the WWPF, on the SCA Website. It is better for us if people do this, as we (a) have an idea of how many people are coming, and (b) dont have tonnes of cash to carry about all weekend.

The link to the SCA shop is here:
http://canoescotland.com/Default.aspx?C ... &tabid=379

If I can get the T-Shirts made up, you will get an email from me, after mid-august, asking of you have a preferred size.

Just to add to this: it hadn't occurred to me to make the posters available for anyone to print out and circulate (doh!)

Please feel free to put these everywhere (choose depending on what you want to print):

I have emailed everyone who has currently booked tickets.

Several of the email accounts rejected my email, so I assume that people have entered them incorrectly on the SCA Site.

If you have pre-booked tickets and have not received an email, please get in contact with myself (neil [dot] farmer [at] mac [dot] com).

Insurance ?

Postby geyrfugl on Sun Aug 24, 2008 6:53 pm

The website is suggesting that you will be buying day membership of
SCA for anyone turning up without an _individual_ membership card
for BCU/SCA/WCA, is that right ?

What happens to people who are members of a BCU-affiliated club for
whom the club has paid a capitation fee precisely to ensure that they
have BCU insurance ? And what about people who can provide evidence
of their own insurance (eg. Snowcard at an appropriate activity level) ?

To avoid the usual disaster area of insurers each saying that the other
insurer is the one liable for this claim, I really would prefer NOT to have
multiple insurers for an activity ... and obviously, I prefer you to spend
all my money on running the event and on access, not wasting it by
insuring an already-covered risk !

For everyone, please remember, that this day membership insurance is ONLY 3rd party liability insurance - it covers you for accidents that you may cause to others, not yourself or your property. If you want personal insurance, BCU/Snowcard/etc are the places to go.

geyrfugl wrote:The website is suggesting that you will be buying day membership of SCA for anyone turning up without an _individual_ membership card for BCU/SCA/WCA, is that right ?

Yes, at the moment, that is what we (did last year) and will be doing this year as well.

geyrfugl wrote:What happens to people who are members of a BCU-affiliated club for whom the club has paid a capitation fee precisely to ensure that they have BCU insurance ?

That is the problem that we have hit. The question is, how can they, as club members, prove to me that they are in fact insured? It is something that the SCA board is considering (club membership) at the moment, and this is one of the problems that are evident. I have been asked by our insurance company, to make sure that all event participants are insured, in this case, at least third party only.
This year, it is not really a problem, as the membership/insurance is included in the £15, but in future years, we will have to ask non-members to pay a little more to cover the insurance. How we will verify club members, I have no idea at the moment. It is a real problem. The other thought that there I see is, are the members insured individually all the time, only on a club trip, on a club trip with suitable leadership qualifications, etc!?!

geyrfugl wrote:And what about people who can provide evidence

This, again, is something that I can do nothing about this year. I hope, that in future, SEPA will agree release dates very early in the year, and anyone in this position, and club secretaries will be able to forward details to me before the event, we can then forward them to the insurance company to say 'ok (to the third party liability stuff)'!

Sorry that they are probably not the answers that you want to hear, but the tight schedule and short manpower have left us pushed!!

So come as your favourite Super Hero or just make on up!
See you all in a couple of weeks

The theme is 'Superheros'.

The Saturday night event will be at the Ben Nevis Inn above Fort William
Many thanks to John O'Kane for his hard work in getting us this venue.
Remember to be there at 1930, for the launch event of the Book "Tall Stories - Andy Jackson".
