Lost on the Dart, 8th/9th

Postby Scumbag_Scout on Sun Dec 09, 2007 2:34 pm

Feel free to contribute to this thread, as I'm sure there are others that lost things on the dart this weekend.

Lost:
Robson Stud, White blades, last seen on upper dart pinned between two rocks n the right channel at the second island.

1 playboater deck, older style with yellow band, marked UPCC, seen floating down the mad mile.

1 wetsuite boot, CSR, left boot. just bove mad mile.

I saw two other boats lost on the upper dart, one pinned at euthanasia, and a green nomad a bit further down.

Thanks to those who fetched my mangled burn on the upper and brought it down to the bottom for me (owe you a beer), shame it's a write-off, will post pictures for general ukrgb amusement.

Usual liquid rewards for return of kit.

I have SUCC Kit bag 1 in my garage.

Mark took this out of a boat he'd rescued from the Upper dart early Sunday morning - he decided that the kit bag looked too inviting and might be better brought back to Newbridge rather than left in the boat.

As there was no sign of SUCC, I brought the bag back with me.

PM me and we can arrange collection - I live in Barton on Sea about 20 mins from Southampton.

Basically I took a bad line to avoid a munching stopper that my friend was fighting his way out of and fighting a tree. Hit a massive f*cking rock that possibly put the dent in the front of the burn (* see the "how fun was dartmoor today" post for pictures.

I went over, rolled up, straight back over again, padddles got caught on 2 rocks, pinning them across the river, I'm then flat on my back deck, I'm then stuck upside down on a rockface holding onto my pinned paddles, Before I could even pull my deck I came out of my boat leaving the deck where it was, I had to let go of my paddles as they were stuck, the deck came off at the same time and apparently ended up out of the water on a log, only to fall off a short time later, I thankfully went through 2 stoppers and swam a little way to the side and grabbed a bush which swung me into an eddy, with only 2 small bruises on my hand to show for it.

Thanks a lot for collecting my paddles, my girlfriend lives in Ivybridge, and she said she'll pick them up when she's back at xmas. PM me your address, or if u're going to run the erme at any point give me a shout and they can be picked up easily as they live 5 mins from the get on.

We did a dawn run today and found your blades - left them RR below Euthanasia.

Also found a yellow Burn, it's now RL just upstream of the slabs.

I saw these yesterday afternoon in, by the sound of it, the same tree. It wasn't safe to try and get them out I'm afraid.

That might have been ours, was just below Ventford Brook. We collected it a bit later. Thanks to whoever fished it out!

Hi Ken, we found your kayak floating past and pull it to the side. I hope the person who was in it was ok?

Yes the pilot was fine, but with another member of the party pinned boat chasing had to take a back seat! Many thanks on the owners behalf! We eventually walked out to Ventford resevoir and only found that the boat had been recoverd a bit later, so we walked back down again to get it.

Also thanks to the group who helped in the rescue and in the unlikely event that she is reading this, the generous lady motorist who ran me back from the reservoir to Dartmeet , instead of running off screaming when accosted by four strange looking people in drysuits in the middle of nowhere!

We noticed some black paddles on the loop yesterday. We could only just see them so I couldn't tell you what make they were but they had been put up on the rocks on river left a couple of corners before lovers leap - the bit with a little surf wave at the top and eddies on the left below a mini rock face if that helps at all.

Is this the one the SUCC kit bag came out of? That'll be Mike Burton's, I'll let him know.

What's the total boat/paddle loss from the last two weekends then? Anyone care to try add it up?!

What a weekend you folks must have had. I found the Wavesport X above the slabs and took it down to above Euthanasia and then found a blue Burn Small stuck on the loop which I took back to Simon W's place at the RDCP ( I beleive the owner had last seen it on the upper!!). Hope the owners have all been reunited with their craft?? It provided much entertainment for me before taking my clients down for a couple of coaching runs

Yes, we recovered the SUCC kit bag out of the Orange Burn before putting the boat on the river left bank by the first set of slabs.

Hopefully someone has retreived the Burn by now!

Hey Simon

I forgot to come to the park and pick up my spare deck from Liz on Sunday, did she leave it with you? If yes I'll pop in to the park at the weekend and grab it back if you are about. Or if the ice thaws and it rains again I'll whizz over in the week.

Cheers Si :-)

Lost on the Dart, 8th/9th

Postby PG on Tue Dec 11, 2007 11:04 am

My turn in the 'lost stuff' queue.

I parked a large blue Burn under a tree RL above Lovers Leap on Saturday. It's (or was) a Pyranha demo boat and marked up as such, other distinguishing features are that it has a small footplate.

If you found it, either PM me or let AS Watersports know.

TIA

Nookie throwbag, lost somewhere between Euthanasia and Suprise Suprise, has Matt C written on it and should have two screwgate crabs clipped to it. Also a black Ortlieb drybag somewhere on the side.

We saw a spraydeck in a tree on Monday, I *think* it was around Euthanasia.
