Large J bar carrier for a tandem SOT

Postby hardtop110 » Tue Aug 14, 2012 7:29 pm

Hi folks. I've just bought a Feel Free Corona http://www.feelfreekayak.com/products/corona/ which I've been transporting upside down on the roof rack. I'd like to be able to get a couple of bikes up there too, so I'm looking for a J-bar type rack or similar to hold it on its side and free up space. Most of the ones I've seen seem pretty small, so I'm looking for recommendations for something that is up to the job.
TIA

I'd suggest talking to KariTek and see if any of their standard offerings will suit - failing which, they will almost certainly be able to custom make something suitable. Mike

I’ve seen many sots up and down the A55 but cannot recall any on their sides imagine there far too wide for such a carrier may be wrong though!
Good luck

I woundnt say you need J bars since the SOT doesnt need the support in the way they give it i.e they are not made out compsite so dont require the same care or support , so you could probaly get away with uprights instead, which will be cheaper at about £25 a pair ( off the top of me head )

Upright bars are an option, but I'd need some bigger than the 50cm ish ones which are the most common.
Time to speak to the local blacksmith me thinks.

Karitek do make them, a friend has two sets on his Shogun. I would be inclined to use longer simple uprights, even if you had some made, the Kariteks will set you back over £80 , and the fit of the SOTs on the cradles is not exactly snug....

I use karitek SOT J bars for my Taran to avoid the top of the J pressing on the chine and denting it. Unfortunately they still aren't quite the perfect solution with the roof bar spacing on my vectra, but much better than the standard sized J.
