Oban Sea Kayak Race 2012

Postby cheezy78 » Thu Aug 09, 2012 10:18 pm

Just a wee reminder that on Sat 25th August (English Bank Holiday Weekend) the 3rd annual Oban Sea Kayak Race will be held in.........errrrrr...........Oban.

Having participated in both events it's a great event, very laidback, well organised, friendly and you get to take in the awesome scenery of the Island of Kerrera by circumnavigating it. Its about 20k long, average time is just under 3 hours.

Theres various catergories and for £25 entry fee (OF WHICH 100% GOES TO OBAN LIFEBOAT STATION THE ORGANISERS DONT TAKE A PENNY, NOT EVEN FOR FUEL FOR THEIR SAFETY BOATS) you get a beer and burger at the end whilst a wistful band plays the evening away.

Why not make a weekend of it by bringing the family, theres loads to do in the area, or a gang of paddling pals. Camping is avaliable at the race headquarters, or go wild camp later that weekend on a longer trip down the Sound of Luing, Garvellachs, Lismore, Seil, Corryvrechan, Grey Dogs, Dorus Mor........got my drift.

Hmm, that has crept up on my fairly quick (no preparation as usual, well even less than usual).

I wonder if I remembered to register when Gus sent the invites out to past participants earlier in the year?

No idea yet if I can make it, can't think why not?

Crack on Jim, you've got 3 days left to get some training in - 3 1/2 if you get up early Saturday!

I haven't managed to get away from work before 8pm yet this week - it's not the training in the dark that bothers me, it's being so tired at the end of the day!
