Full Face Helmet

Postby Ollie5 » Sun Jul 29, 2012 6:34 pm

I am seriously considering a Full Face Helmet as I am always worried about getting wacked if I go over, can anyone shed any light on advantages / disadvantages and which one to get. I spent a lot of time on motorbikes as a kid and know how exposed you can be.

I love my Sweet one. Only minor disadvantage is that I have to speak a little for others to hear, or pull the jaw-piece down.

Apparently WRSI are bringing (have brought?) a full-face that will be a fair bit cheaper than Sweet's.

I've seen the shred reddy for £40, I wear a standard one but wonder if it gives you enough protection with a small peak, the Wrsi is £115 with a large peak Has anyone got 1 who can let me know what it's like? I had a Sweet Strutter but found the peak was a pain at times getting pulled by faster water and wasn't overly keen.

The peak is pretty much irrelevant to the level of protection...

Get one by all means but TEST IT OUT ON AN EASY RIVER FIRST.... don't take on a steep pushy river for your first run with it. It makes you feel a bit more constricted and you feel as if you've not got so much peripheral vision. (Speaking from experience on the Versasca... scary... I walked out!)

After a few goes you'll get used to it and of course your vision is pretty much the same as it was before.

I have the Sweet one, took the peak off because I don't see any need for it.

^^ I have to say I didn't notice and sensory difference the first time I wore my fullface, compared to my fullcut Rocker... Also took the peak off mine though, I hate the way it 'catches' when upside down in turbulent water.

I've got the Shred Ready Full Face

Really liked it for manky Scottish ditches, not worn it much other than that.

Thanks for replies guys, I've ordered the shred Reddy full face on offer for £40, as I disliked the peak on my Sweet helmet for similar reasons it makes sense to forget the peak. Thanks

Strange..it worked earlier, try this, its my muppet of a son insisting he could still wack me on the nose throwing a football. His nose is bigger than mine and he broke it going over on the Upper Dart..I should convince him to get 1!
