Hi
I am heading up to Swaledale in a couple of weeks to camp and canoe the River Swale (Grinton to Richmond section). I noticed from a previous post that the river can get quite rocky at low water. I have a Sevylor Colorado and so I was wondering if anybody has successfully canoed this section in an inflatable. We are also quite new to canoeing, having mainly canoed on the River Derwent in North Yorkshire. Can you tell me if it is ok for beginners? Any advice would be much appreciated.
Thanks

Re: River Swale- Suitable for inflatable canoe?
The Swale is a spate river. During the summer you could ride a mountain bike down the river from Grinton-Richmond unless there has been heavy rain. Here is the guide, http://www.ukriversguidebook.co.uk/rive ... o-richmond
If you are camping at Swale View, it is only a short drive over to the Tees which is more likely to go in the summer. A trip like Cotherstone- Barnard Castle or Winston-Gainford might be good for an inflatable :-) Both of these are Grade 2, the later only just!

I have a dog, his name is Erik.
