Kayak ergometer

I'm wondering about trying to persuade my Uni to equip it's new gym with one or more of these and I was wondering if anybody knew what the options are and where you can get them from?

There is a resource here on Canoe England website http://www.canoe-england.org.uk/media/pdf/Ergo%20Paddling%20Machine%20pack.pdf has a list of contacts at the end. (not sure how up to date these are) Canoe England have spent a lot of money on Dansprint ergos http://uk.dansprint.com/1/31/dansptint-ergometers.html which they used for the Indoor challenge that they held. Our club has a Lawler engineering one which cost around £750. Your Paddlesport Development Officer should be able to give you some more information.

PM with where you are based and I will try and hook you up with your local Paddle Sport Development Officer. The BCU has a couple of these in each region for events and encouraging new paddlers to try the sport.

They may be able to let you have one for a couple of days to try or show the local uni.. alternaitivle you could run a go cannoing event or sponsored Ergo Challenge.

Hi Biketastic

There are 3 main options in the UK currently
1) KayakPro http://www.kayakpro.co.uk/these are the ones that we (Canoe England) use and as the others have said each development officer has that they can use to develop paddlesport within their region. The contacts for the development officers are here http://www.canoe-england.org.uk/youth/contact-us/.

2) Dansprint these are very much the Rolls Royce system (although their race software is bettered by the KayakPro) they are heavier, bigger and more expensive than the Kayak pro.

3 Lawler, Roland makes these and many clubs use them successfully, available from Ivan here http://www.ultimatekayaks.co.uk/TrainingAidsdetails.asp?TAID=3 there is more information on the software that we used to use for them here http://canoesouth.org/index.php?page=paddling-machines

For my self if I was getting one to train on I would choose the Lawler (its half the price of the others) however for a club where it needs to fit more people and the ability to link it to other machines and race over the internet I think that the Kayakpro has it.
