Re: Nafford Weir
Nafford weir always runs, however if the Avon is in flood this is the best time to catch it for surfing the wave at the bottom of the sloping weir face. We often paddle their in the summer which is still great for cartwheeling, tail squirting, breaking in and out stalling and there is a deep pool if you swim directly below. In winter see if the Avon is bank full, if so its a great spot.

Re: Nafford Weir
I've been thinking about this as a practice spot. Are there any hazards to be aware of with it (ie a side of it to stay away from, characteristics at different levels etc)?

I have to be honest and say that I prefer Knightwick Weir.

Nafford is easier for me to get to. Though isn't Knightwick weir very dependent on precise levels for safety?

Re: Nafford Weir
You can paddle on Knightwick on most levels, as it approaches flood, a closed stopper can form. But in those levels you would probably be paddling other sections of the Teme.

Excellent, thanks. One thing I did notice the last time I passed by Knightwick was that the possible parking area next to the get in appeared to have been blocked off.
Have you any experience of the weir at Powick?

Re: Nafford Weir
The Powick weir has a nice fast and very narrow chute on river left. other than that save it for higher water levels.

Not the other week! There was more than 12ft of towback on it!
