Reflecting Journey to L2 - I Need Inspiration Please

Postby peakfreak » Sun Apr 29, 2012 9:43 pm

Hi All
Just putting the finishing touches to my L2 portfolio but I need some inspiration and/or advice.
The section where you have to write a 100 word statement reflecting on your journey to prepare for level 2.
Simply put WTF is that about? It sounds very happy clappy psyhco babble? What exactly is the BCU after with this?
Is it meant to be an I did this then I did that, I ticked this box or is it meant to be a statement of how I felt heading down the road to L2.

TIA

When I did it I just wrote about when I started paddling, how long, what sort of stuff... competitions, disciplines etc. Then a bit about why I wanted to coach, clus I was involved with. How it was that I wanted to do UKCCL2 and the things I had done to get there. Tree huggin' hippy crap :-)

I think that this bit proves that the candidate is a real person!
I have a dog, his name is Erik.

From memory its a section to explain why you want to be a level 2 coach and your experiences in getting there ...

I wrote some reflections on the highlights of what I did to gain the relevant qualifications, and my thoughts on how much fun it was

I simply wrote about my journey through the level 2 and how it highlighted my strengths and weaknessess and mentioned the parts of the process where I leaned the most.

This for me was the most important aspect of the Level 2 process. In many ways it was a turning point in my life as I realised I had the opportunity to revisit some of the places and events that had brought me to where I found myself: on the brink of a true breakthrough, crossing the doorstep to a new tomorrow. I chose to take the exercise literally, travelling the country to visit the scenes of my development and to see once more the faces of those who had inspired me to take this momentous journey. I neglected my work, family and friends in my ceaseless quest to find meaning in what I had done and in what I was about to become.

After months of self-reflection and endless attempts to bend the arc of my own story into 100 words, the same phrase re-entered my head, rose to a whispering crescendo and wouldn't leave. "If the road brought you here: what use was the road?".

Then I wrote 100 words of shit like everyone else.
