Where to go in Europe Next Week
There are six of us heading to Europe next week to boat (class IV-V), totally flexible on location (only booked dover/calais crossing).
Does anyone have any water level information for any of europe? Any advice will be greatly apreciated.
Cheers

There's not much happening in Italy:

I think Austria's still a bit cold, but you could do the Saalach in lofer. Is the middle Oetz/Wellerbrucke still a bit bony? I imagine it's the same for the Virgen schlut on the Isel?

Cevennes if it rains hard or just looked at the Ubaye gauges http://www.eauxvives.org/en/niveaux/en-direct/index which say its at a decent level but not sure about other stuff in the Ecrins.

Re: Where to go in Europe Next Week
Depends a lot on the weather.
If it stays cold and very rainy like it is right now then the Jura, Pre-Alps, Massif Central and Alpes Maritime should be worth a look.
If it gets really sunny and hot then the areas with a lot of snow left to melt - Briancon area, Rhine valley, N. Austria and Bavaria.
Its probably still a bit too early for the glacier melt regions like Upper-Rhone, Aosta, Landeck, Engadina.
Good luck!

Re: Where to go in Europe Next Week
I am with Ian Beecroft on this, it's all too cold up high, all the rain above 1500m or more is turning into snow, and only the froth ranges are having any signs of runoff. At present the best bet is Liguria, Provence and the Central Massif. Also consider the Pyrenees. There are many trips a foot in Bosnia, Montenegro, Albania, Macedonia and Greece at present all have had a great winter, and reports of good runoff have been heard.

Nothing useful for europe but if you dont mind changing your plans slightly water levels are supposed to be good in Morocco (well its only just past Spain) at the moment. I say supposed only heard it third hand, but I'll know more at the end of the week when im out there.

If you check my link above you'll see that things are going off in Liguria right now, but beware that those rivers run off quickly and the weathers set to improve.

Re: Where to go in Europe Next Week
If I were you I think I'd pray for it to get real hot (as is the forecast) so that snowmelt will kick back in.
In Switzerland at least April to date has been colder than March - so a lot of the snow is still up in them there hills!

Gauges here - http://www.eauxvives.org/en/niveaux/en-direct/index, both on the French and Spanish side though quite a few of them don't seem to be working.
There was still plenty of snow left when we were there a couple of weeks ago. Stuff looks slightly higher now in general, but still not good. guessing it needs to get quite a bit warmer?

Re: Where to go in Europe Next Week
In the western Alps the foehn wind (hot) has been blowing very hard for several days and snowmelt has kicked in hard and many river levels are high, plus there have been very strong winds, so watch out for high water and a lot of new trees hazards in places. The Chamonix region, the Upper-Rhone and Bernese alps have been particularly affected.
Pretty much everywhere in the Alps (including N. Italy) seems to have water right now (including Val Sesia).

Re: Where to go in Europe Next Week
Not much help this but I'm just back from a great 2 weeks on the Tons River in Northern India. A great April destination. Warm enough weather and low water. The melt is about to start and the river will rise. As it rises it will get harder and the raft companies keep running their section till the end of June. We paddled most days, flew in Virgin with kayaks and had Himalayan River Runners transport the boats direct from Delhi airport to the river we too the train to Dehradun and then a HRR minibus to the river and stayed at their river camp. and the reverse for the journey home. Trip worked out at a little over a grand for each of us in a group of 8. If I was looking for an Easter break for a group of grade 3-4 paddlers this would brilliant. Two - three day self support down the lower canyon was the highlight - one class 4+ rapid and the Rupin/Supin confluence to Mori was testing enough to provide that little adrenalin rush!

Re: Where to go in Europe Next Week
I try to go to Val Sesia next week and need some infos about the conditions.
The weather forecast for next week (Borgosesia) says 15°C and sun. Can anybody estimate the chances for water (Egua Sermenza...)
Thank you for your help!
