Stout UK - New blog

Postby mattdavidson » Sun Apr 29, 2012 10:08 am

Ben Johnston and me have created a blog site where we will post up video's, pictures, reviews and blogs from our latest trips.
Here is our first blog, on how to get a dent out of your kayak! Any good points/constructive criticism would be greatly appreciated!

facebook page - https://www.facebook.com/StoutUk

Blog page - http://stoutuk.blogspot.co.uk/

Thanks,
Matt

How disappointing. I was hoping for a comparison of Guinness vs Murphy's.

Stout?

Are you for real?

Listening to those bombflow lads is painful enough already.

What about Fullers London Porter, Black Sheep's Imperial Russian Stout or Acorn's Gorlovka?

I get the feeling that I'm not alone in saying that all five engage me much more than flavour of the month kayaking buzzwords...

So you made a video of a technique that masses of boaters use and which many a paddler has independently thought up when posed with the same problem, then they made a blog post with photo's of using a very simmilar technique; I don't see what your point is.

On a slightly adjacent note, does the Etive right angle falls constitute soutness?

We'll I guess if you're a chap who is a little stout then it could be classed as mildy stimulating. But not brown, because they only have the brown in Newcastle.

Are you suggesting you invented that method of removing dents from kayaks?

At the ages of 15 and 16 I'd wouldn't call it tame. I certanily wasn't good enough to be blogging at that age!

Can someone put something more useful up, such as a "How not to dent the nose of your kayak in the first place" article? ;)

Admittedly this is the sort of thing I would sneer and cringe at if this was your average middle aged boater, but these guys are 15 and 16 and obviously keen as beans.

Young boaters enthusiasm is a whole lot better to see than old paddlers cynicism and negativity, im sure that by the time these boys are allowed to drink it they will be hucking it.

Keep it up lads and dont let the old boring people put you down.

I'm with Joe and Callum on this one, keep up the good work great to see a couple of good young kayakers giving blogging a go. I also enjoy Joe's comment as I know how much he hates all things Brown....

I would say people are a bit fed up of the whole brown stout thing, but I think most of the time that's because they have missed the point. Its supposed to be stupid, mindless and just a good laugh. It might be worth brightening up the blog a little bit to make it a bit more readable. And playing around with the size of the header to make it less dominant. Don't worry about what people think or an image as a kayaker, kayaking is not really supposed to be cool and that one of the best bits about the sport. I remember an old EUCC poster that was knocking around for a while that had the ironic title of 'Passion for fashion?" Try and blog about the fun you have had and your love of the sport and try not to tell people how awesome you are, even if your the most awesome person ever nobody wants to read about how you think your awesome!

Enjoy kayaking and I look forward to hearing about your adventures.

Which is the whole point of the brown claw - taking the piss about the completely un-stout thing you just did and laughing at how stoked you are anyway. People who don't get that usually tend to be either slalom-paddlers, or have the fat end of a carabiner stuck up their arse.

I agree, it's good to see such enthusiasm. But the bit I'm most impressed about is getting a habitat for Christmas. Santa rocks!

Good effort guys! It's your blog, you've got lots of time to develop it and everybody has to start somewhere, right?

Sadly this thread has revealed a rather less endearing aspect of UKRGB, in term of several not-so-constructive comments...

I think there's some changes you can make to the format to improve the aesthetics but that'll come so don't worry if it's not perfect straight away. As for the name personally I like it, its a bit loud, a bit cocky which as teenagers I suspect are you down to a tee. People are always going to moan but as the penguins say "smile and wave boys, smile and wave". Keep it going and post some quality content.
