Vauxhall Insignia Estate - Roof rails

Postby paddletastic2 » Fri Apr 27, 2012 9:35 pm

Anyone got a Vauxhall Insignia Estate? The roof rails are not the traditional style but are shapped sections on the roof. Do they take roof bars well? Do they seem up to the loads of 4 kayaks? They are rated to 100kg but I wonder if roof bars clamp on as well as traditional fittings?

I haven't got an Insignia, but Thule do fittings for this type of rail, which is appearing on many different makes of estate car now.

I do have said vehicle which replaced my old Vectra. The bars and feet were a straight swap, all I needed extra was a new fixpoint kit. You'll find the rails are more than up for the job as is the fixing kit (4012), infact, Thule actually modified the fixing kit about 18 months or so ago to make them even better. they clamp onto the rails by way of two allen head bolts and if you look closely at the rail, you'll see there's a lip to which the fixing kit sits snuggly under so once they are clamped it's well and truly on. You know it's tight as you get that "ring" from the bar if you tap it.
As far as four boats go, no issues either as mines has tramped up and down the motorway at 70mph many times fully loaded and never had any issues.

bars 861 aero
feet 753 (the smaller ones which hold the bars closer to the roof
fixpoint kit 4012

Hope this helps, Willie
