Kayak wall storage ideas

Postby Veedurb » Sun Apr 22, 2012 2:46 pm

I'm going to be storing my boats vertically mounted against a wall in my garage (hull or cockpit to the wall, not sideways). My basic idea is to put some eyebolts in the wall and use some old straps/elastic/whatever is lying around to tie them in place.

Question is, does anyone have any other good ideas for fastening boats vertically to a wall? Any ideas or inspiration would be appreciated. Many thanks in advance!

That's exactly what I did. I got a pack of Vine eyes from B&Q and fixed them in the wall with Rawplugs. I then tied some 5mm bungee cord to the eye on one side of the boat and put one of those little keyring karabiners on the other end. So I just stand the boats on their stern against the wall, pull the bungee round and clip the karabiner to the eye on the other side. Works really well for me. You do need to cut the bungee a bit short though so that you have to stretch it around the boat so that they are held tight to the wall.

This is how I store my boat. There was a piece of wood already attached to the wall, so I just put two screws in (place them just wider then the width of your boat) and then hold the boat up with bungee straps like the one on this link: http://www.roadking.co.uk/bungee-straps-tie-downs/bungee-straps-pack-of-6.html

I placed a bit of carpet under the boat to stop it slipping on the concrete floor and watch out for light bulbs hanging down in front of where you lift the boat onto its stern!

Dont know if you've got an attic to your garage, but this worked really well for ours: http://I.imgur.com/b8Dg9.jpg?1

Now a shelf on that interim level for kit bags

Cheers for the ideas guys, the help is much appreciated. Got some more ideas bouncing around in my head so I'll head off to the drawing board!
