With my first surf boat on the way I'm looking for a accompanying paddle. I'm 6'1" and will be paddling a Mega Scarab. I'm a sea kayaker so used to my longer paddles but from my research it seems shorter is better when it comes to surf.
What lengths would people recommend? I have a mid-range budget so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks,
Liam

Re: Recommend me a surf paddle.
I found some discounted "Streamlytes" on ebay last month (direct from them). And saved about £40.
They were either seconds quality (blemished) or ex demo blades, but new shafts (whatever length required).
There might still be some on there (I haven't looked recently).
Just type "Streamlyte paddles" into the search bar, they may still have some available?
I asked for a 197 shaft (I'm 5'11"), and have used the paddle with my Perception Sonic and my Chatham 17.

Big blades and a short shaft is the norm for surfing with the majority of people using a paddle between 180cm-195cm.
I currently have a set of 194cm Select W1 mediums but I will be moving away from these pretty shortly back to a 188cm paddle (my preferred length) with bigger blades.
Robson Fluid and Chilli blades and Werner Players are always popular but there are plenty of other good paddles out there. I will shortly be using Double Dutch blades on a Waterstick crank shaft as I have decided this will be the best combination for what I am after.

I have a pair of Carbon Streamlyte paddles that are 187cm long and I find them really nice. I started off using a pair of glass ones that were 197cm long but I changed to a shorter shaft and really prefer them. I think the blades are called 'Freeways' but I'm not sure. Any way they have a big surface area which I like.
