What to wear Slovenia?

Postby vintage » Sun Apr 15, 2012 5:32 pm

Hi all

Going to Slovenia this week for the first time. Also my first paddling trip abroad. So your advice would be great.
Just wondering what I should bring in terms of gear. Should I pack the drysuit or the shorty cag?

Cheers Dave

Weather will be max 12c and min 1c for the next week. Water won't be particularly warm. You can make your own decision from that!

Dry top and may be bottoms, not shorts this coming week, cold and wet is the forecast, but great levels, 25cumecs or so and holding.

I went to Slovenia last year as my first trip abroad paddling, and was also unsure on what to take!

I went at the end of June/start of July, to weather would probably be different.

I packed my shorty and a long sleeve cag, but ended up just using my shorty, and a pair of board shorts one the water.
The water was pretty cold, but as soon as you come back up after a roll, the air temp was high ish 20's so it warms you up straight away!

If you think you might take a few swims/have to help rescue people and may have to be in the water, a dry suit would be better, but you might get very hot when paddling and waiting around, depending on the weather

Here's the weather for all this week: YR.no

Wet, cold and rainy, no shorts, no shorty and probably no sunglasses.

What to wear? I believe the Mankini is de rigueur in Eastern parts of Europe!

Am pretty sure that Slovene's do not class themselves as eastern European, much like the Czechs, especially as Austria considered western European is mainly east of both countries. I understand the term is central European. Anyway the most Mankini's ever seen was in London, worn by the english football team's supporters......the game was against Kazakstan after all.

Si is that the same as the Nottingham boaters refuting that they are Northern and claiming to be Midlanders instead! ;-)
