Who let the dogs out?

Postby Douglas Wilcox » Mon Mar 19, 2012 7:58 pm

Despite 3.5 months of intensive and painful physiotherapy, my knees are not too good at the moment. It takes me ages to get going in the morning and I don't like driving any distance in the car. So by necessity, recent paddling has involved just making do with what's on Glasgow's doorstep.

Nice sharp images as usual.

Seeing these sails reminds me of Patrick Winterton's video of him Training, he flipped in force six, and upside down dropped the sail to the deck and rolled back up, all caught on the video camera mounted on his rear deck. Saw the vid at the SCA coaching conf.

You need to start video filming Douglas !

Douglas, I know by the picture it is Little Cumbrae, but I think we must have just missed each other as we also had lunch there on Saturday, and those very same dog's, all 9 of them joined us. We were off up Bute for the night. A fantastic weekends weather, one in a million. At 6.00am it was frosty with the tents all iced up, but when the sun came up it was glorious.

Is this the new peaceful caring approach to trying to keep people off the Wee Cumbrae - releasing the hounds on them, but only friendly hounds....???

I wish my backyard had such fantastic scenery in which to paddle!

Thank you Nick, I really can't be bothered with the time video editing takes, but in case you haven't seen it before, I have made a short kayak sailing video. The photos are sharp because the air was so clear with the wind from the NW.

Hi Colin these photos were Sunday. Did we see you paddling from Garroch Head to Glencallum Bay about 1139 on Sunday? There will soon be more dogs, one was heavily pregnant.

Image
On Saturday we went from Portencross out to Glencallum Bay on Bute then back via the Cumbraes. The wind started SW then gradually veered NW. We sailed the whole way.

On Sunday we went from Portencross out to Dunagoil Bay on Bute then sailed back by the Wee Cumbrae. The good folk of the Garnock club arrived back at Portencross at the same time as us. Some of them had also been out to Glencallum Bay but we didn't see them till we were nearly back.

Hi Jim hope the buggy racing was good! Apparently the Indian guru who put the money up to convert the island into a spiritual centre was arrested for suspected tax evasion.

Hi Curly, we certainly are so lucky.

I'm very much of the view that exploring what's on your doorstep is at least as rewarding as exploring what's over the horizon, or indeed on the far side of the world.

Even so, clearly some doorsteps are more rewarding than others.

Douglas
It was most likely us, as we were stopping for lunch in Glencallum Bay. You covered a fair distance with those sails, or is it us who plod slowly and not far, I prefer to think the former. This was the first time I have done an overnight round the Firth, something I will have to redress, strange how you dont think your backyard can offer the same as far flung places. The cost of fuel will assist us to consider more local destinations, which is no bad thing.

Cheers

Indeed -though those you paddle with often make for better memories than where you chose to paddle.

Nice photos as per usual Douglas, good luck with the knees.

I think Douglas's initial "just making do" was ironic...
