My Rockpool GT skeg has grit in the casing causing it to stick and I cannot flush it out with a hose.
I intend to remove the skeg, by undoing the bold through the casing in the rear hatch.
Is there anything I should do before releasing this bolt, in terms of position of the control lever?

Good question, and I don't know the answer. The best thing would be to phone Mike Webb in the morning and ask him.

Nope, the skeg wire locates into a hole in the skeg blade, it's not even fixed in.
You'll need 10mm spanner/ sockets to undo the bolt, and its real 'fun' putting it back together on your own, and a good dollop of silicone sealant is needed on the bolt and nut when you get it back together, or it'll leak.
I had the same problem, and you might find just loosening the bolt a little cures the problem. if you have to dismantle it drill a hole for a cord to pull it out in future

Re: Rockpool GT Skeg
I’m not that good at DIY but have done it a couple of times and found no problems, a bit fiddly regarding the rear hatch but very achievable.
I have attached a piece of line to the skeg drilled it and looped some line makes it easier if it sticks, that is for someone to come alongside and pull it down.
I haven’t had many problems with it in fairness, good luck.

Thank you for the replies. My feeling was that it would be fiddly realigning the skeg and hole after removal.
I sprayed more water in this morning which helped a little.
So before removal, I sprayed silcone onto the control slider and onto the end of the exposed part of the wire in the skeg box. This eased it up and it is now working again without removal.
