Saws - where do you carry yours?

Anyone thought of the wire saws such as the BCB Commando Wire Saw, I have used one while camping and it tears through even fairly big trees no bother, and it packs down nicely

The saws are good but need two hands, so if you were pinned, holding your head up or an object with your hand, you can only hold the saw one handed.

I keep mine in my BA or on a wee bumbag, with pin kit. I don't use a kneeling thwart and don't like opens with low set seats, I really want to fall out the boat sharpish If there is a pin risk.

I have an old quick release skewer which is alloy, from a mountain bike, that could be used to replace a bolt at one side of a kneeling thwart.

In a kayak, within a vertical pin, could you not stab the knife near your toes then pull toward the cockpit to get out ?

I think you would struggle to cut yourself out of a kayak sitting in the lounge let alone in a vertical pin. Best to escape or keep stable and wait for your mates to help. I don't carry a big saw but have the serrated gerber as a river knife which gets through most things, fingers included. Haven't come across a situation where a big saw would be of help despite paddling lots of tree ditches.

Mine is bungeed to the underside of the yolk in my open boat where it is easily to hand. It gets taken in, opened up and air dried between trips just like my river knife.
