A small team of Indian paddlers went to the south of India looking for a smallish waterfall to paddle. What we found was a little low but amazing granite river beds with and some small waterfalls that were big enough for us.
Highly recommended area if anyone is in Bangalore. I would go to the extent to say that the paddling in the south of India is better than the Himalayas at certain volumes. The Indian hucking area is definitely around bangalore!
Pictures are on facebook. Sorry.

Pretty much anytime of the year would be ok for Hogenakkal as there are over half a dozen lines and lower water to come in the summer will make some of the gnarlier lines more runnable.
Send me a mail before you get there and I will put you through to an avid boater out of Chennai and he has a few boats on him!

A lot of paddlers from the UK get to Bangalore, I guess. Now the cats out of the bag. The river is only 80 kms away from Bangalore! And there is a friendly bunch of budding paddlers who will be happy to show you around.
From mid may to end November would be awesome.

Re: Paddling down in South India
We did some paddeling on those Hoggenakkal Falls in 2006 or so. A good idea is to connect it with your visit to Goa. Winter is the best time as I believe (looking at pictures) that the Hoggenakkal falls can be a big mess in high water monsoon.
There are some other rivers and some huge falls in that area too, especially good to do some research in October, as some of the rivers didnt have the necessary flow.
Maybe fly in to Bangalore October, travel along the rivers to Goa and then chill. We did it vice versa and were a bit late (Dec/Jan). Do some check out on the "Waterfalls in India" and you will find some awesome possibilities. Shalab will have the contacts down south. I think there´s an English chap running a camp/company down south too.
