Glad you like them Richard. After the paddle we had a little swim in the lake - the ice was refreezing round us while we were in the water

Excellent pics and looks like a good location. I am planning to go back to L. Lomond next weekend to get some more loch paddling. Its great at this time of year, albeit cold.

It was -9C when we set off but in the sun I was warmer than many "summer" days Ive been out in. The lake was completely empty with 1/4in ice at launch - 1/2 hour to paddle 100m - but there was open areas of water to paddle the length of the Lake.

Brilliant its not often I see people out skiing in the Lakes. Its been a poor year so far, last year and the year before I managed about 25 days each year.

Your lucky you didn't go out on Saturday as it was blowing a force 6 and big swell - we spent an hour getting a mile paddle in on Ullswater.
I see you have a Taran - I'm considering getting one. What do do think of it ?

I love it. I`ve yet to develope the paddle skills to get the most out of it. It can be a handfull in wind driven surf but then most with any sense would avoid that. It`s a joy to paddle over distance and flies with a following sea/swell.

Great pics - looks like a great day on Derwent Water.
Both days you were on Ullswater or Derwent Water there was lift served skiing available just a few miles away.

see website:
http://www.ldscsnowski.co.uk/index.html

Well over 20 days of operation this season so far - not bad.
We may be on schedule to exceed the numbers of days skiiing of the last two seasons.

cheers

Davie

BTW

Davie
ref the tow on Raise, there's no option for a 'day ticket' is there ? Had a nice tour fromRaise across the Dodds and back last Thursday and wouldn't have minded a play on the piste. Any exceptions to the annual membership thing ?

Geoff,

all the details here: http://www.ldscsnowski.co.uk/index.html

£23 / year to join + £10 / day or £25 /season.

Joyriders on the lift system will only incurr the wrath of the mighty King Bernie of Raise.

hopefully tows will be running on Friday - weather permitting.

Back on topic: West Cumbria Canoe Club had a night paddle on Derwent Water with 19 members last night. The brass welder must be doing overtime for those hardy souls.
