a NEW EVENT – THE RIVER’S SOURCE – a White Water SYMPOSIUM 27/29 JANUARY 2012

Image

Always one of open new doors, Gene17 will start the New Year with a brand new event, The River’s Source, a coaching event for White Water Paddlers. This Symposium will be organised along three themes; Paddler, Club/Business & Industry and of course hosted in Devon, at the prime location of the River Dart Country Park.

We’ll invite all the leading providers, industry contributors and experts from far ranging fields. Work shops on white water kayak design, or a Q&A session about the legal position of a coach or club leader, starting a club or developing a competition/coaching programme, the list will be extensive and inviting.

We’ll offer the Symposium to day visitors and weekenders a like, details to come by September. Follow G17′s News for forthcoming details or join the Facebook Event

Hey Paddler

A Merry Christmas and all that, but just before you go in search of holiday fun, let me tell you about another event we have planned in the New Year down in Devon.

So we've given you the end of year party, that is the Adventure Paddler's Weekend, and White Water Festivals in both Italy & Norway. Now for 2012, we've brought together the top providers, the best manufacturers and UK paddling’s movers and shakers to offer both unique and original workshops, clinics and workshops, at the River's Source - a white water symposium.

It’s a gathering of the white water scene, and you’re invited to take part, join in, contribute, shape outcomes or simply listen and soak up all what’s on offer, see below for some of the fun you can join.

For news of the event, see http://gene17.com/wordpress/?p=1260, for the event itself go to: http://www.riverssource.co.uk/

I am sure we have something for you to enjoy, both on and off the water, Saturday evening lectures are free, along with free clinics for under 18s. Several clinics are already nearly FULL.

If you have any questions, please get back to myself,

More Clinics by demand, plus Dave Carroll & Bob Timms from PGL

Image

We've added more Gene17 clinics to the River's Source symposium, why because all the other Gene17 clinics are full or nearly full, plus we've called up Gene17 old boy Dave Carroll from Ireland, and PGL have sent the rather excellent Bob Timms to delivery some clinics too. Surfer’s Ear Clinic at the Rivers Source

As kayakers we are often subject to our heads being immersed in water and can be at risk of developing exotoses (bony growths within the ear canal), which is commonly associated with regular cold water exposure to the ear canals.

On Saturday evening (28th January) at the Rivers Source Symposium, there will be an opportunity for paddlers to have their own custom ear plugs made.
Clare Morgan (Whitewater paddler and Audiologist), kindly supported by Starkey Laboratories has volunteered to run this clinic to raise awareness of this preventable condition and hopefully reduce the incidence of exotoses. Using ear plugs on a regular basis when water exposure is likely can reduce the likelihood of developing this condition.

There will be a charge of £40 for producing the swim plugs and numbers of plugs made on the evening will be limited, so please visit the stand early to save disappointment.

Hey all,

Myself and Andrew Butler, along with Jay Smith and Seth from CKUK have got a clinic/session on Sunday of the River's Source this weekend, and I thought you might want to know a bit more about what you'll get to do....

We have some pimp new gear from LowePro and Watershed to have a play with, as well as the opportunity to try a whole load of different things....

- What do the buttons do on my new camera? Straightforward ideas to help you get the best out of the settings and go "beyond auto".

- Making your photos special with a few top tips

- Flash, aha - the opportunity to experiment with off camera flash and other exciting lighting solutions.

With Tom, Jay and Seth's experience across the globe poking cameras at stuff we can tailor the course to suit what YOU want to do! We will of course not be chatting about it, but getting out and DOING it!

Andrew will also be offering tips for the GoPro (and other head cams) to go beyond the rain spotted blurry footage, as well as loads of simple ideas to get far more from your GoPro. "Beyond the head cam". Again Andrew will be bringing a range of toys down with him for you to have a go with. We will also have some laptops and macs on hand to play with any footage or snaps.

The price? Well, how about FREE? You'd be mad not to sign up.

Jay and Seth will also be running a "How to get published" on the Saturday, so sign up, grab a coffee and we'll see you there.

Want to warm up with a cup of homemade soup before or after your paddle on the Dart this weekend?
Then meet the Widecombe Preschool Fundraising Team at Newbridge Carpark on Sat 28th Jan between 11am and 2pm - if you chuck a few quid in our fundraising bucket then you will be happily supplied with soup, a roll and.... cake!
Have a great paddle and please support this valued local kid's charity while you're at it -
Thanks,
