Yorkshire & North East surf coaches / leaders???
Are there any active surf coaches (or 4 / 5 star leaders) out there in Yorkshire or the North East? I know of Wilf and Ferg - any one else?

Just Ferg to my knowledge.
Never seems to be much demand for surf coaching-unfortunately.

We've talked about coming up to the NE to run a surfkayakskills coaching weekend, as Dan and Tamsin Green (team paddlers) are based up there, and trying to extetnd our efforts outside of the SW. Do you think there would be much interest in getting a coaching event organised?

The Scarborough club lads n lasses are out in North Bay most weekends when there's a bit of surf up, I'm sure they would be interested.

I'd be interested in a surf skills course in the North East, I'm not interested in 'stars' and the like but would appreciate some tips and feedback from folk who know what they're talking about.

Re: Yorkshire & North East surf coaches / leaders???
Hi Glynn, we currently have 87 members on the North East Surf Kayaking facebook group , and the issue of a coaching weekend has recently been under discussion on there. We had a fantastic turnout to the NE surf weekend in 08 and quite a poor attendance at the last one (2010?) - these were organised by Chris Heaney. We now have a couple of new surf reps on the regional teams who are keen to get something happening (myself for Yorkshire, Micky in the NE region). So far I have only managed to find one surf coach (L3) in Yorkshire. There are several in the NE region. I have people interested in Mod Water and 3 star in the yorkshire region. We do also have interest in competition - Micky and I managed to do a couple of the cornish events last year but I dont know if we will make anything much this year (maybe the May surf skills weekend and godrevy the weekend after). Dan has been threatening to put a comp on, and I have one coming up in Scarborough weekend of 18th/19th february!!! (details tbc but keep your diarys clear!). Any advice for running my first comp greatfully received!

It sounds like you're really starting to get things going and organised which is great. I'll get in touch with Dan to see if we can't find a date to run something together over a weekend involving coaching and a competition.
Keep me posted about your Scarborough comp as I'm free that weekend. I've never surfed there so I'd be keen to come along and lend a hand if you'd like.
PM me if you'd like some specific advice on running your event.
Cheers
Glyn
