Charity kayak of Caledonian Canal - Scotland

Postby Hilliard » Mon Aug 13, 2007 8:46 pm

Hi guys,

New to this site and only been kayaking since Xmas. Some great stuff on here. On September 26th myself and a couple of pals are kayaking the length of the Caledonian Canal over 4 days (hopefully!!!) also covering Lochs Lochy, Oich and Ness (total 100km) to raise money for 2 charities...Brainwave and Stick'n'Step. Both of these charities treat children with Cerebral Palsy, my 4 year old son being one of them.

I am twittering on basically to ask any of you out there if you have ever done this or part of it and have any do's, dont's or any advice at all. We are doing plenty of training and have bought a load of decent kit (so we have been advised!) but you can't beat first hand experience. we are hoping to have a backup car with tents and kit in, obviously camping each night at pre arranged campsites.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers Jason

PS - If any of you want to sponsor us please go to - justgiving.com/caledoniankayak.
Any donations will make a massive difference to the lives of these children. A massive thank you to those of you that do.

Caledonian Canal trip

Postby Copepod » Mon Aug 27, 2007 10:12 am

As I'm a newbie, I can't post a URL, but if you Google "Camracers" "Caledonian Canal", you should come to our account of our Caledonian Canal trip in Sept 1999 (5 youngsters aged 20s and 30s and 1 in his 60s, all in single kayaks). Hope you have a good trip.

Hi Jason - sorry to bother you but was hoping for some advice / info on how you managed the trip - logistics / planning training / equipment / project planning if done and any other advice you could offer. 6 of us are hoping to do in summer - for downs syndrome research - and want to learn from anyone we can!

Happy to make donation to your charity in exchange for support!

Hope to hear back from you.

Stuart

There are liable to be some changes (since 2007) and you should probably consult with the Great Glen Canoe Trail on up to date advice on landing, logistics etc...
