Thanking the Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team Ashburton

I'm trying to raise some funds for the DSRT Ashburton, who were among the volunteer rescue groups who came to the aid of Chris Wheeler and carried him out of the Dart valley on the night of 21st November 2009.

Many of you generously donated when I ran my first marathon for this great cause, last year - viewtopic.php?f=3&t=60761 - I was blown away by paddlers' support.

Now I've entered an offroad coastal ultramarathon (34 miles and lots of hills). I tried a half-marathon version of one of these events a couple of weeks back. Despite no training I somehow survived... http://southwestseakayaking.co.uk/2011/ ... il-series/ - based on this, I've decided to enter the ultramarathon in two months' time. There is no way I can do the kind of proper training that such an event properly demands, but basically I'll just 'give it a go' (in true amateurist fashion).

Please consider supporting the DRST Ashburton, using the link below. In return, I promise that I will suffer considerably for your amusement/ satisfaction!

Any support for the DRST Ashburton welcomed and appreciated.

Cheers,

Great cause - if a bit of a crazy event, you have my support (in an advisory role only).

Mark, have a look at my blog (linked in my signature). I ran my first proper Ultra (Grand Raid des Pyrenees, 50 miles, 5000m ascent) over the summer and there's a few of my learning points on there, if they're of any help to you. Good luck, and I'll happily throw some cash in as well.

Dartmoor S&R Team Ashburton were called out again yesterday afternoon for a paddling group, who did not get off the Upper Dart in day light, all were well and arrived at Newbridge at 1830.

Good luck to Mark.

Also the Facebook Group Kayaking the Dart, are also having a DS&RT fund raiser too.

I think they were up on the river today, doing some kind of rope traversing exercise.

Come on guys and gals, two great ways to help a fantastic cause and there are hundreds of people who use the Dart every weekend (who read this forum) and hopefully they(you) won't need the Dartmoor Search and Rescue team from Ashburton but if you do then they are always ready and available. Your donation or T shirt purchase will help them to be better financed and equipped to help anyone in need on the moors.

Come on you know it makes sense to invest in people who invest in your safety.

Thanks Buck.

Just to remove any confusion - there are two completely different things going on here, for the same worthwhile cause.

The t-shirts he mentions are absolutely nothing to do with me or UKRGB, they come from Simon Westgarth (although they are obviously non-profit-making and don't carry Gene17's commercial logo). A great idea, and a great design from Pete Wood. I've ordered one and might just head back and order one for Mrs R soon. You should all consider getting one, too!

Here is the link to buy your t-shirt - http://gene17.com/wordpress/?p=1306

What I'm doing for Ashburton DRST is just going running a lot, which isn't such a hardship; this is the view from this mornings' run...

Run Mark Run.

Please back Mark's efforts on this, and if you have any spare after donating to his fund raising, please consider the Tee Shirt offer. Same cause different methods.

From the recent Dartmoor Paddler's Tee Shirt drive, see http://gene17.com/kayaking/2012/02/dart ... er-201112/ for the results

Good luck this weekend Mark

Great stuff, well done all.

Um...I may be wrong about this bit (feeling bad now for ordering my 2 tees by mail, seeing the eventual cost) but weren't Gene17 going to cover the postage?

Gene17 a bit ambiguous:

All funds beyond the Tee production will be donated to Dartmoor S&R Team (Ashburton). Gene17 we’ll manage and administrate the orders and mailing free of charge.

Not actually saying they'll pay for mailing?

I could not make the weekend and thus my Tee was posted to me, I'd have been happy to pay for the postage and would do so in the future :-) as I'm sure would many others.

Great job Simon.

Hmm, now Mark I did not say that. Everyone who ordered paid there own postage in with the order, some people collected their Tees so their postage went in to the donation. I am not sure what else you want from myself, after all it was not a 5 minute exercise to arrange, administrate, bag up each order, label them and stand in line for an hour at the post office with the look of hate from each and every one be hide me in the queue. All whilst running the new River's Source event, and trying to pack up and leave for the season. I am not sure of more do you wish.

Not asking for anything more from you, just looking for clarification, which I now have. Thank you for administering the posting free of charge.

Many thanks,
