Surf kayak coach / 4* trg Scotland / Borders??

Postby tenboats1 » Wed Sep 28, 2011 6:43 pm

Anybody other than Glenmore Lodge running surf courses in the North? (No problem with Glenmore, but their dates don't suit).

Looking for some coaching to 3* level and a 4* training course.

cheers

Tony,
Did you come up with anything as a few of us from Edinburgh area may be interested ?

I spoke with Andy Spinks a while ago and, subject to availability, he would be happy to do a course taylored to whatever is required. He's also potentially interested in resurrecting the annual Surf Gathering in Tiree which Id be keen to get a bunch of folk together for.

I have followed up the lead I got from Wilf and have had a reply which looks promising. I am waiting for friends to get back to me, but could have 2 spare places if we go for a max group size of 6.

I'm happy to look at other options because dates may not suit / be difficult to arrange with one coach, so a second bite is always good.

My new boat should arrive soon ...............;)

Get some meat on the bones of Andy's offer and drop me a PM.

Hi Guys,

I am available to do some coaching toward those awards and can either assess & train 4 star. I would consider travelling to Scotland if you have a group. The other option is for your group to get the ferry to Larne and do the course in Ireland.

Hi, I'm on the West Coast, just bought a surf kayak and would be interested in some training. Having been out in the boat in the loch yesterday I definitely need help!

In a similar vein, would anyone be interested in a 4 day or so surf gathering in the Spring sometime ?

Most likely in Tiree or somewhere similar with coaching provided ? Ive been making a few personal enquiries on this basis but if theres the interest Im sure we could book a couple of coaches.

No specifics at this point but I would have thought it could be tailored to whatever level is required with the possibility of some 'star' training or assessments if desired

(Sorry if Im hijacking the thread a bit !)

Well, we are sort of stalled, but I'm doing a beginners weekend in Nov. via the SCA.

I haven't forgotten about some coaching, just concentrating on WW until mid Nov, and waiting delivery of new surf boat.

cheers

For me it would need to be in the New Year / Spring now Im afraid as Im away from mid December to mid January.

From the posts above there are potentially a few coaches available, either in Ireland or Scotland, so we just need to get a few folk together and agree what we want.
Id be happy to make some further enquiries or leave it inTB's hands if he'd prefer but to get the ball rolling for now -

Any venue preferences ?
Any date preferances ?
Just a weekend, a long weekend or even longer ?
What sort of level do we need ?
Anyone bothered about doing their 'stars' or just some coaching ?

Possibly easiest to take this offline so why not PM me with an email address and answers to the above and I can pull them together.

I have no problem with some else picking up the ball and running with it:)

Going forward via PM seems good.

PM heading your way.

Coming back to this - - -

Sorry folks but this never really got off the ground due to other committments, injuries etc so just wondered if there was still a desire for some bespoke surf training in Scotland and, if someone were to organise it, would others be willing to commit and put their moeny where there mouth is, so to speak ?

A couple of us are considering doing the 4* with Glenmore but are still looking for more general tuition if we can sort something out at the right price.

To the couple of guys who responded offering their coaching services, if you are still interested in doing so could you please PM me and we can have a chat about how to take this forward ?

Thanks all.
