Hey folks,
Thinking of running this section tomorrow (especially if we get a bit more rain overnight). Anyone know what the access situation is like? Is this stretch fished (and if so when does the season start)?
Cheers :-)

Well despite the overwhelming flood of advice ;-) not going to bother today as the water is proper low...
I'd still be interested if anyone does know what the access situation is like though. Been trying to find out online when the fishing season actually starts, but no joy. Not that I wouldn't contemplate paddling in the season, but it's useful to know when things are likely to be more sensitive..
Cheers

There is no access agreement (no news there then). I have heard tell of problems in the past, but I have run it a few times in summer with no problems. The land at Dolauhirion bridge river right has a sign saying it is owned by Llandovery fishing club, but you can get out river left onto a public footpath if there are people there.

Thanks guys, that's useful to know. I was having a hard time finding anything on the EA website, but I think it was running a limited version earlier in the week.
Cheers!

It's not the most intuitive site to navigate - though having said that I seem to have found this link more easily than I recall in the past!

Re: Afon Tywi - Junction Pool to Dolauhirion - Access?
We ran this section on Saturday.
Due to shortage of daylight and faff , we shortened it by getting on 2 bridges down from Junction Pool.
On the river left is a campsite and the owner had no problems with us using this as a get on as long as we did not drive on his grass (it was very muddy), we thanked him and kept on friendly terms.
A small group of 3 got on river right and they were accosted by a farmer/land owner claiming that he had bought the rights to this piece of river for the fishing , and they were not allowed to canoe/kayak.
However I was told it all remained very polite , when he was informed that he might well own the banks and the bed , but not the water , and his neighbour across the river had no problems with us accessing it.
Although there are "No Canoeing" notices up all over the place , mainly by bridges , we had no problems on the way down and and at the get out.
I must admit we were very taken with this river , it was a most enjoyable paddle and just right for our mixed ability group.

It goes as low as 0.5 on the Dolauhirion gauge - bony above the bridge Andy G refers to, but surprisingly OK once into the 'gorges' below and only the occasional scrape thereafter. 0.6 or more is better.

0.3 on the Ystradffin gauge should be enough, you should see one and a half pipes flowing out of the Dam base for that level.
