Bilge Pump How-to

Postby TheKrikkitWars » Mon Jan 04, 2010 3:09 am

I've just completed a How-to on fitting a bilge pump in a SWWC, (and fitted my bilge pump whilst I was at it).

Please do tell me If I can make this guide clearer.

I'm chomping at the bit to, but I won't be back till Saturday :(

Saturday night "quiet drink" followed by a sunday gentle paddle? (assuming the weather complies and provides bountious rain/snowmelt).

How well does the "racing connector" at the output of the battery box stand up to being submerged? I presume you stuff a load of mastic around it then wrap the whole thing in duct tape. Do you disconnect it there to change the batteries or do you open the Peli case?

(PS: There's a Bilge Pump topic in the Sea/Surf section : viewtopic.php?f=4&t=7136 )

The connector is unsealed, and works just fine even in (highly conductive) Swimming Pool water.

I would however discourage anyone from using a Rule Bilgepump in an OC1, It's functional enough but seems far from the performance of an Attwood; (Though I MAY be supplying insufficient voltage, More on that soon.)

Hi Josh

How well has this been working, if you don't mind me asking?

Badly, the AA battery system has too high an internal resistance, they overheat and cut out after four or five minutes. The pump fitment itself seems to work fine with a 13.2V 7.5Ahr SLA, but I've not got round to purchasing one for myself.
