OC1 C1 whats the difference?

I'm looking at getting into a bit of canoeing (allready a level one coach and 3* whitewater kayak) but I cba with a big boat I want to piss about a bit if u know wt I mean so I was wondering if anybody could give me some advice on which are the most fun boats allong the lines of maybe a Spanish Fly?

OC1 means Open Canoe 1 man.
So thats boats like the Spanish Fly, or Dagger (now esquif) Ocoee.
These boats are similar looking in shape to the more traditional larger open canoes. Generally they have straps that hold your thighs into the boat so you have control and you cant fall out if you capsize. (learning to roll is required for both OC1 and C1 boats). more stable and eaiser to use than C1 boats.

C1 means Canoe 1 man
C1 Boats are generally kayaks that have the normal outfitting removed and then decked out for canoe use. (knee blocks, saddle, thigh straps). These boats take time to master as they are short and in a canoe kneeling position you gain more power and leverage that needs to be weighed out with technique.

The difference between a kayak and a canoe is how you paddle them, a canoe is paddled single bladed in a kneeling position. and a kayak is paddled with a double bladed paddle and paddled in a seating position. and then whether its fitted with a saddle or a thwart. or fitted with a seat.

Ok me not being an idiot an everything I did know the difference between a kayak and a canoe :P but ye other than that some great info thanks guys :D could you possibly recommend me anything good to get me going on? I'm more interested in running rapids then playing in holes.

There's a meet at Mile End Mill, LLangollen on the 13th February...there will be c boaters there of every description, trad to the newest OC1! Some demo boats as well I think.

Might be a good place to pick up a second hand c boat too...

Take a look at Team Mean's page on Facebook too, some good picks of what you can get up to when you get yourself a proper boat...(-;
