Paddled the Perthshire Blackwater today, low level with plenty ice and snow in the gorge and on river. A tree has fallen over on the river left gorge bank about 40m above ski-jump and the branches are hanging down and cross the full river (at the low level we were on) When the snow thaws and the level rises it will be a definite one to get out and check as it will form a strainer. It's a definite get out now as you can't get past it and need to portage. I don't think the tree will fall fully down so may be a blockage for a while unless it is cut clear.
cheers, alick

this tree is not to much of a problem as w.l.c.c paddled it on m and as long as you can grab the eddy on river right there is a line though maybe on high this line will be bigger and on low might dissapear but where there is water there is a way mined tight river right eddy its tight 2 boats at the most.

Re: Tree in Perthshire Blackwater
Hi, the tree actually got fairly trashed when the big ice that was on the river thawed mid january and came down river. A lot of the tree that was over the river was broken off by ice. I've paddled it several times at different levels since but get out at the tree sincew the water pushes you toward river left where the bulk still hangs.

RIVER BLACKWATER (Milton Falls to Netherton Bridge)
Paddled the Perthshire Blackwater yesterday (3/10/10) on medium to high flow
A tree has fallen down across the river the next right hand corner after the grade 4 rapid in the gorge. We were able to pass it by eddying out on river right however be aware that the flow of water does push you towards it.
