Guys and Girls
I'm looking for an alternative to the usual gym equipment matting and wondered if anyone had any suggestions.
cheers Mike

Re: Kneeling mat
Hi Mike
In all my canoes I use Zote foam, bought from a place in High Wycombe. If you want to have a look at any point in time am happy to meet you one evening in Oxford.

Re: Kneeling mat
Nancy Brooks (Glenmore Lodge) advocated cheap karimats glued in, at the Paddlefest, but I bought a 'bell canoe' neoprene kneeling mat, very comfy and warm in winter.

Re: Kneeling mat
I've been doing a bit of Pilates recently and have puchased my own mat. Not the silly stuff you see in sports shops but the real deal. This things like a karrimat but thicker (15mm) and ribbed on both sides. Very comfortable, but expensive. My mat (180 x 61cm) was around £40.00. I'd be looking to use this when I buy my own boat (instead of borrowing my sons).

Re: Kneeling mat
Hi
Mike - I look forward to hearing from you soon, maybe we should have a paddle as well
John - When I see you at the Marlow CC visit I do, check out what I have done to my boats, I think you will be impressed.... as will be your knees :-) Also the Zote foam supplier is next door to you in High Wycombe!!
I would advise using cheap carry matt as from a outdoor shop, as it looks after your knees (ish) but does become very slippy when wet, decreasing your connectivity with the boat!! I will try and find the contact details for the Zote foam supplier and post them on here
Enjoy your canoeing folks

Isn't it Imagineers 01494 473861? I've obtained some material from them before, they do prefer that you know what you're after.
Elements - do you use the LD40 Plastazote stuff, or the LD24, and how thick? Or is it one of their COTS kneelers?

Re: Kneeling mat
Hi
Thanks for that TechnoEngineer thats the place I get it from. We use Evazote foam at 20mm thick, it comes in sheets 1metre by 1.5metres and costs about £30 per sheet.
Great stuff.
Hope this helps folks

Re: Kneeling mat
Popped over to Imagineers and picked up a couple of sheets of the foam Rob recommended.
The main man there reckons he might be able to do ethafoam at a reasonable price if anyone is interested for saddles etc.
Rob, what did you stick it in with? I was thinking of using double sided heavy duty carpet tape.
Once I've got it in a paddle sounds like a good idea. I work in Didcot, so scooting into Oxford one evening is no problem.

Re: Kneeling mat
Hi Mike
To stick it in I use heavy duty sand paper on the area of the boat that I'm gluing the foam to and them clean it off with a clean rag and meths. Then I let it dry off and use this http://www.bostik.co.uk/diy/product/evo-stik/serious-stuff-wet-grab
Hope this helps & drop me a line when you fancy a paddle
Enjoy

Yep, well it certainley works of Venture Canoe's corelite and roylex. So I would imagine it would work on PE just make sure you make the surface being stuck to aggressively rough!! The Serious Stuff Wet Grab does NOT work however for D rings however, I use Impact Adhesive for that in my Corelite boats
Hope that helps
