Nick - UKRGB is made up from paddlers supplying guide information for rivers, so if no guide has been submitted then it will not be on UKRGB. In this case why not just use the SCA WW guide, there is no need for two guides.

Better still paddle it and forward your own guide to UKRGB ;-)

I know how UKRGB works, it's a popular river seemingly just wondered why it ain't on the guide.

The SCA guide thanks Mark R for allowing the details to be lifted from UKRGB for mayn rivers in the guide.

Nick why not ask the contributor for the Ericht guide to the SCA WW Book, to also submit it to UKRGB. I cannot answer for Mark but I'm fairly sure it will only be added if submitted, or if someone writes a new one and submits it.

There will probably be one in the 3 years worth of updates in his inbox.
Is the Ericht not supposed to be quite easy with a couple of nasty ones that sneak up on you?

It's the Blairgowrie Ericht, the SCA guide is good, just looking for actual paddlers who have done it and their opinions.

I wrote a guide and sent it to Mark but it hasn't appeared.

Includes a basic map.

Tricky get in. Fairly continuous rapids makes it hard to do a rescue in case of problems. Otherwise all fun.

There isn't a portage if you just take out above the weir - think about heading for the river right bank to take out after you go under the pipe which crosses the river. Nice run, we floated down part of it on an iceberg last week!

Site riverguide updates are on hold as the back end of the site is being completely re-designed/ re-written at present ... not by me!

Apologies,

Community hydro work on the Ericht

Postby Jamie Adam » Wed Oct 27, 2010 4:02 pm

Hi folks,
BARRC (the Blairgowrie and Rattray Regeneration Company) are building a small 50kW screw hydro on the Oakbank Weir on the Ericht. This is the nasty weir directly below the normal takeout, and is an unusually good hydro for kayakers in that it will take water off the weir, reducing this hazard for boaters. The water will go back in the river almost directly below the weir, and this section of river isn't padded much anyway, as it leads directly to the G5 section. However construction work is potentially hazardous, and will be going on for another 6 months at least, so it might be worth taking out 100m upstream after the final rapid, just before the riber goes under the pipe across the river (I normally use this anyway to avoid the weir). Eddy out river right, carry up the slope avoiding the gardens, and walk along the path downstream to the footbride to the carpark.
Cheers,
Jamie
PS - all profits from the hydro scheme will be going back into local charities.

Ericht Get In - Road Conditions

Postby RoddyMac » Mon Nov 15, 2010 1:51 pm

Paddled the Ericht yesterday, note of caution to anyone elce going to paddle it, as the road to the get in is no longer a public road there has been a build up of dead leaves making the road surface very slippy especilly when breaking.

I was on here last week and it looks like the weir has started to break up around a third of the way across from river right. I don't know if this is related to the hydro work or coincidental. At the water level we were on at it looked messy and it wasn't possible to tell what is in the broken section but there are certainly some loose timbers bobbing around. It may change the flow over the winter after a few floods and will be worth seeing what develops.

Postby Janson » Sat Feb 19, 2011 9:25 pm

Paddled this today - the weir has changed again and will probably continue to do so until it is sorted out by the hydro folk... take care
