Should have put all this up sooner. The tree mentioned in this topic and pictured here is still in the river, but has been cut back some. There is a route going from river left to right, but it takes you over some submerged rocks, which could push you into the branches. Take a look well in advance and make your mind up as there aren't many places to stop immedietely upstream of the tree. Try and get on the river right bank, as if you are going to portage this is the easier side to do it.

There is another tree just downstream of the first one, which we made an effort to remove on the 22nd Jan 09. It's still in the river, but is now much easier to avoid as long as your on the ball and get across to river left early enough to get around the branches.

Update from Frith Wood:

1. Apart from the log mentioned below, the wooded sections were clear as of last Wednesday. Big floods may have altered that.
2. There is a log completely across the river entering the forest on the second section of the beck. This is after the autoboof falls and the log bridge and would be nasty in high water. Hopefully the floods will have shifted this.



3. The two fences were still there. the first is on a left hand bend in the woods and easy to spot and get out for. The second is at the entrance to the gorge and is also easy to spot.





4. The Weir mentioned is collapsed on (I think) the right side and the masonry forms part of the rapid downstream. We all took centre lines without any mishap. Couldn't see the boat breaking pinning rocks mentioned.
5. The sheep fence mentioned at the egress is now reduced to a single strand of wire:
