On paddling the (Aberdeenshire) Dee on 18/10/2009 there is what appears to be a taught wire (or line) tied to a rock stretching down with some sort of weight at the end.
It is on the centre of the final rapid before the last drops above the Banchory Bridge.
We tried to wade out to it but the current was too strong and there was a risk of being washed on to the rocks below.
Next time we go down we will take wire cutters and have another go.
