What is the trim like when you kneel in that position with the gear that you will generally paddle with?

I know this is not very helpful, but, it seems to me that however much time, thought and care you take over this, a week later you will decide it could have done to have been 2" this way or that!!

Always happens to me anyway!!

BTW, although not perfect, you can fill old holes with the push in black plastic 'caps' available form Halfords etc, (car trim thingies). I super glue them in place. They look pretty neat, and project less than thwart bolts.

The balance point is 1 inch in front of centre thwart, with kit still stern heavy but can relase stern if push against centrre thwart!

when u buy a new canoe, and before u decide where to put hte kneeling thwart, get a dry bag, fill it full of soft clotes n stuff n use it like a saddle, (kneeling with ur legs either side of it) then u can paddle for a while with it in different places till u find what feels right, then mark the side, and all sorted.

using dry bags as a saddle

is such a good idea, and very comfy, that I do this when touring to give me various seating options. I have the bag in front of my seat, strapped in place to d rings on the hull.
I can sit on the seat, or kneel using the seat, or sit/kneel anywhere along the 80litre dry bag according to how I need to trim for wind.
