Savage Canoe

Postby Rockrat » Wed Jan 05, 2005 7:46 pm

Hia,

I've paddled a Savage Skeeter on Windermere after a Rothay trip. I think this White Water Canoe is more for river running than freestyle.

There is another picture of the Skeeter at the canoe clubs website. http://www.ribblecanoeclub.co.uk/Gallery_Pages/River_Rothay_October_2004.htm

Not actually that sure about freestyle. It does surf and back surf quite well. Don't think it is possible to get it verticle. There are more pictures of the Skeeter on the club site at Teeside if that is any help.

OC1 boats

Postby iduffycoaching » Fri May 20, 2005 7:44 pm

take a look at the esquif boats link via www.squarestuff.co.uk
they do a plastic freestyle opencanoe/river runner and a plastic OC1 freestyle boat that won the recent world champs, they also do a massive selection of OC1 boats and good trad boats.

Is that the Ian Duffy who was GB Champion and represented us at the worlds in 1999?

If so he should know what he is talking about! However, my opinion is also that the Esquif boats are great. Seek them out and make your paddling match that of the americans who swear by them!

The Open Canoe Symposium in November is the place to try them and get some excellent coaching from the best coaches (girlie coaches too!).

Skeeter

Postby Jamie@Openplayboater » Mon May 23, 2005 8:38 pm

Hi,

I paddled the Skeeter for quite a while back when they were the freestyle boat of choice. The Skeeter is a great river runner but if you are looking to play the river go for a Pyranha SpanishFly or a Savage V SuperFly. I squashed the hell out of the ends of my boat to try and get it vertical easier but bear in mind that back in 1999/2000 I was only 17 so I was small for the boat really anyway.

As for pictures and a bit of info, check out this link

http://www.cboats.net/ocrecboats/ocskeeter.shtml

I might have some pictures of me in the boat but I'll have to have a look around.

As for the Esquif boats, they look alright and they have just released the Taureau which is a river running/creek Openboat. The Salsa (the boat that won the 2005 worlds) isn't available yet but I can guarantee that it will be a pure park'n'play openboat and I don't know if it will be plastic or composite, the three protos out in Oz were all composite though.
