Trailers ??

Hi,

I'm investigating trailers for a Lottery bid. The trailer cost will
be the single biggest item.I have looked at Kari-tek ones but
any other links to good trailers, typical spec. below -

Galvanised
takes 6 open canoes
cage/locker at base for paddles etc
decent tyre size

I think that most of the decent trailers will be around the £2k mark.

Kari Tek do a decent range that look like they have sensible features designed into them (like steps on the wheel arches, as they recognise that they will be used as steps...) and can make them to order as I've discussed with them some specialist requirements

Hayling Trailers are the ones that I've used the most (except for the ones in France) and are quite easy to use, except for when our vehicle maintenance guys put anti seize on the bolts that hold the uprights in place... therefore allowing them to work loose and snap the supports...

Burtech are mainly bike trailers but now have some canoe and kayak trailers which look pretty good.

Yorkshire Canoe are doing trailers, as are Brookbank. Both are bought in from WWC.

My favorites are ones that I can't get in the UK though; they're the ones made in Vallon Pont D'arc and are used by just about everyone out there; really simple trailers that are rock solid!

Unfortunately most of the professionally built trailers that I know of get run into the ground; they often live hard lives, and get very battered. The last one that I know of that got disposed of was after the A-frame snapped (was made by Viking)... it had been on it's way out for a couple of years mind!

Hope that helps, I know that I've just lifted that straight from another forum, but it's easier than reinventing the wheel!

We've bought the 8 armed burtech at the last three institutions that I've worked for.

It's the Rolls Royce of trailers, very adaptable, carries 8 Open boats with ease, I've had 24 plastic sea kayaks on it and 26 river runners.

Well built, no issues, very helpful guys.

Hi,

Check out the trailers from WWC (white water consultancy). 2 or 3 spar, braked, hitch lock, spare wheel, full lighting rig and bomb proof. Better than that they are a dream to tow. Check out their dealer page for suppliers. Having towed one loads (every week for 7 years) they are the only trailer I have towed where if you ahve to stop quickly, will stay behnd you in a straight line. If you are serious ask Richard at Outdoor Active or the boys and girls at Brookbank. Prices from £1500 ish.

If it is any help I have also used the WWC ones many times and can concur, rock solid trailers. ?Have just ordered one to carry 8 opens, price is around £2k mark (without a cage), but they do it as an option.

I would stick well clear of hayling trailers - we have three and have had no end of problems (one snapped in half after light use) the others are ropey at best! We have just ordered onr from Kari-Tek.

I actually never got that grant but have another ones, specifically for a trailer.

I'm borrowing a Kari Tech Arran B. Braked and very solid. Really smooth to move on my own for hitching etc too.

Luckily VAT is 20% and may get a School discount !

Anyone used the Brookbank C8 trailer ?

Hi Nick, I also have a Hayling Trailer. Shortly after I got it, both side of the axle developed metal fatigue cracks where it was welded to the rest of the chassis. They replaced the chassis under warranty but exactly the same thing happened again a few months later. After that the local Indespension centre welded on a new axle which has not given any problems. I also had problems with the upright mountings cracking and Geoff at Karitek welded those up and did various other things, like weld on new mudguards with a footstep on them. I very much like the look of the Karitek trailers.

I'll probably be getting a Kari tek, I have been using a borrowed one since June, it's soild and braked so is easy to tow with the school minibus.

On flat ground, I can spin it even when loaded with 6 kayaks. It's very well balanced.
