Paddled this on saturday, low water but worth doing. Made 4 portages around or over trees in the first km and cleared a couple of others, so don't be put off by the guidebook description. The lower steep section after the weir was short (9 drops) but excellent, would be fantastic with more water in. The final and largest drop has a log stuck in the pool, a few feet away from and parallel to the base of the fall. It was only just visible at the level I did it and needed a sideways landing so you stay on the surface. In higher water it might not be visible, so inspect carefully- it could shear your head off.

Sounds like there's some new trees then. 6 months ago we had no portages.

The tree in the last drop - does it still run diagonally from river left at base of fall, towards centre of river in downstream direction, about 20 foot long? If that's not the one you mean then it sounds like it's moved and/or there's a new one.

It's a lovely little run! Try not to inspect the main harder section too much in the bushes on the right (or left!) when you're paddling it as it's pretty obvious to other people and a sensitive area too by looking at it. Easier said than done I guess. Possibly inspect from the road on river right before paddling? Although it's not a great view.

Yes thats the same tree in the final drop.

Agreed, inspection of the final section from river right would be preferable- I did so from river left which was very steep, mulchy and in the trees- difficult to get the view you need.

Out of interest, what else was running that day? I'm trying to gauge what the general levels in the area need to be in order for the Angell and other rivers to run well.

For example, if the Eden is high the Mawddach probably will be too, and rising, and the small rivers eg Mynach/Gamlan/Lliw probably dropping off but too high for now.

If the xxxxxx is high, the Angell and yyyyy probably will be too.
