Kayaking Buddy

Postby avinago » Thu Jan 20, 2011 8:14 am

Hi all,
I am looking for someone who is interested going out paddling male or female , I have been kayaking on and of for two years, generally local rivers and sea around Southampton. At this moment in time I am using a perception acadia but will be upgrading to a more suitable sea kayak shortly. At the moment I am going out two three times a week to get some paddle fitness, I am 45 yrs (old male) have my own business and very flexible as I only work 3 hrs a day three - four days a week. Once a good level of fitness has been achieved would like to do longer more interesting trips.

Hi
Have you tried the upper hamble canoe club in Southampton? they are very active with Sea & River kayaking I know a few of there club members who are good paddlers and coaches who could help you out.

Cheers Andy

Hi I'm a member of the Hamble Club I joined last year, but due to commitments I could not go to many of their Sunday meeting and have only been to one pool session hopefully this year will be different. I don't work so I could be free during the week if interested, up to now I have over 10 years experiencee in paddling and hold a BCU star 1 will do the 2nd one later this year, I have a sea kayak and sit-on-top, I've paddled the Hamble, Beaulieu River and up round theSouthampton Docks launching from Eling hope to go farther a field this year.

Hi John I can't do this Sunday :-( where are you launching from Shore Road Swanwick ?
The perception essence is a very nice kayak nearly bought on myself, well have fun and maybe meet up another time, but do look at joining a club i.e. the Hamble or New Forest KC as you can get free tuition/training and in the winter indoor pool sessions to do rolling ect

Hi Richard,
That's a shame. Yes at Lower Swanick, I will be joining a club once I have got more confidence in what I am doing. The amount of reading and viral clips I have seen and actually practising has helped no end, it's just practice, practise, practise and more practise, Iv'e even managed to lose 10lb this month.

Hi All went to watch kings speech last night great film, any way due to domestic with wife have decided to go out up the Hamble today, looks a bit chilly but some aggressive paddling will no doubt warm me up. No doubt dragging the wife upstream in a body bag will help also

Dear John.

Id' really like to offer Kayak buddyship, but at present I am not so sure that am going to be quite ready this year.

I have just dusted off a 30 year old Nordcapp which has been hanging up in a roof space for c. 25 years...and I'm attempting to give it a lick and spit, and get it back in running order. This of course is the easy bit, as I have also got to see about gettting myself back in running order. I started this process the other day by trying to get into the darn thing, and found two minor problems. Firstly that there appeared to be more of me outside the cockpit than inside, and secondly that I could only sit in it sideways. I got out with help of a few close friends and a few sections of scaffolding tower. A subsequent weighing discovery made me realise that my last trip around the Isle of Wight was about 30 years ago and was undertaken 5 stone lighter. I can, however report that I am now only 3.8 stone short of of my intended re entry date - early 2013 is I guess a bit hopeful, with the smart money on late 2014. This will mean that I will be closer to 70 years of age than 60. Naturally the dizzy spells might be more regular, and the dribbling a little more prolific, but on the whole the incontinence might provide a useful central heating system in conjunction with wetsuited legs.

I'll maybe get back to you 2014. - Yours aye - Julian
