Playboating woodmill weir
anyone fancy joining me for a session at woodmill weir tomorrow or next weekend? new to the area and looking for good playboating spots, hopefully with some local knowhow too. already learnt not to rely on the surf forecast down here!

Re: Playboating woodmill weir
tips for woodmill weir. best run on a tide level of 1.4 and below. any higher than this and it obviously gets washed out and on occasions during it's rise creates a bit of a messy hole. Over recent months the weir has become very unpredictable, on occasions very grabby with nasty re-circulating eddies on both sides!! obviously being completely closed in on both sides it doesn't tend to flush out at these times too easy, but with the recent dry spell it has seemed to ease off a bit and has been running really well. The weir can be inspected before you get on by jumping up on the wall by the road bridge you cross to get there.you'll soon work out for yourself whether it's good to go or not. river left corner of the weir can also be a bit grabby on all levels rather randomly so be aware.
Apart from that when it goes it's a cracking little play spot.
Tide times and levels are best taken from southampton, I always use the BBC guide. I've found the best time to get on is about half hour before low water and get off about an hour an half after low water.
Enjoy and play safe
