Possibly. I've been wondering whether I could do the Eddystone challenge for a while now. I'm always out and about in that area in my creek boat, doing trips of up to 12 miles in the evening after work. I guess to make the Eddystone and back, I'd really need to be in a longer boat. However, I don't want to buy a sea-kayak as I'm generally happy with the paddling I do, and I like the convenience of a boat I can easily carry on my shoulder and store indoors.

Is the Eddystone challenge a sea-kayak only affair? I could try rejoining my old canoe club if they've got sea kayaks I could borrow.

I believe it is - fast boats only.

There is a condition of the race that you have to get to the halfway point in less than three and a half hours which basically means

faster (read longer) boats are most suitable etc etc , ..

Okay, that makes sense. As we're coming up to the end of the financial year, now's a good time to see about contacting my old club to see if they can help out with a sea kayak. Watch this space...

Hi Ray

I will apply for solo kayak entry of the challenge, so I need to have Buddy.
My kayak is Nordkapp (Valley sea kayak), not K1 style. I can maintain speed of 6~7 km/hr for about 6 hrs.

Will you accept me ?
I'm based in Exeter, Devon. You can contact me on mobile 07821 511209 or dl259@exeter.ac.uk

I'm not looking to paddle but I have a Valley Nordkapp HM with Ocean cockpit for sale at around £700 which would be perfect for the challenge if you know of anyone who wants a sea kayak. I'm based in South Brent (between Plymouth and Exeter) More info on request.
