Sierre wave on the Rhone in Switzerland - great conditions

The Sierre wave is working really well at present, so if you are passing through the Swiss Alps then it is well worth a visit (should be running until end August).

Best discharges are 180-350 m3/s and the data can be found at:

The water comes up radically most evenings, particularly when it is hot - so the wave is constantly changing.

We are keen for people to paddle (respectfully) here because it will help us to defend this wave through the proposed re-engineering of the river bed. Enjoy it. Ian

PS: there are currently major roadworks near the spot so you might need to improvise a bit on directions.

Bad news: the Sierre wave has changed - some rocks have moved. There are now some big standing waves on river left (difficult to catch), a pour-over in the middle and a small, shallow, fast wave on the right next to the eddy. The small wave on the right is OK for some tricks but watch your head if you capsize. In general the wave is no longer worth travelling to but worth a look if you are passing. Here is a photo:
