Hi folks,
my other half decided she wanted to fit a paddle keeper to her Ocean Kayak Yak board but it went horribly wrong so I am picking up the pieces! It now has two 5 pence piece holes in it that are about 1cm deep and go all the way through.
Anyway, it is apparently made of polyethylene and I have found a sheet of it on fleabay. Not at all practically minded but I was planning on melting some of the sheet with a mini blow torch until maleable, bung it in the hole then mould it into place until set. Then sand down a wee bit but I'm not that worried about a rough finish.
What do you reckon, a suitable enough repair or does anyone have any better solutions or advice?
Thanks in advance, Den

You can hire platic weilders I belive, would do much better job, there is somthing about over heating the plastic thats just makes it brittle so there a sweet point that you want it to be at when trying to blend old with new

Re: SOT repairs
I'd be inclined to use this stuff (it's amazing) http://www.westsystem.com/ss/g-flex-epoxy/
It's designed to work on polyethylene boats unlike most other epoxies. There's a video of a somewhat contrived kayak repair here http://www.westsystem.com/ss/g-flex-torture-demo/
Hope this helps.

Nice link, that looks quick and easy (and cheap which G-Flex is NOT!)

You can pop these into a glue gun to use:

Re: SOT repairs
Morning all,
Many thanks for the replies, much appreciated.
After looking at a few options and seeing a couple of perceptions at the weekend that had had holes repaired, the "melt any piece plastic into the hole using a mini blow torch" seemed to work on them and they are still going strong so I'll give that a go and then check it is water tight.
Will report back at some point happy or unhappy!
Have a grand week, Den
