Paddling the North Coast.....

.....of California.

There is a nice series of articles, including photos and videos, documenting a 400-mile trip by Paul McHugh (Outdoor writer for the San Francisco Chronicle) from Crescent City down to SF Bay at http://www.sfgate.com/northcoast/

For anyone that thinks that California is blessed with ever-present sunshine, the reality is here for all to see - warm air and cold water do not make for clear weather!

Paul has championed kayaking in numerous articles in the SF Chronicle over the years. One of his companions on this trip, Bo Barnes, is a California kayaking legend. There can't be too many people who paddle in Northern California that haven't met, been taught by, or simply paddled with Bo.

Cheers,

Clark

Just got around to reading some of that...interesting trip.

I enjoyed this video...but found myself tut-tutting at some fairly poor forward paddling technique.

Or is it just me?

Mark,

Your dead right. I had not noticed it before, but Paul's paddling technique is very poor! I'm sure that Bo will give him some pointers to better technique along the way. We'll see if there is any improvement as he heads south.

Cheers,
