Does anyone know of a 5 Star Sea Assessment in June? I'm a visitor from the US looking for one, but so far no luck. Or are they not done in June for some reason? Lack of conditions or similar? Thanks for any advise.
Michael

Hi Michael,
Usually 5* assesments are done in the winter as the conditions are usually more suitable.

I think it has more to do with there being a night nav element and the lack of dark hours in June rather than the conditions being unsuitable. Last time I checked tide races, open crossings, force 5 and above winds were all available in the summer.

I'm booked with Nick Cunliffe on the 7th & 8th of April. http://www.kayakessentials.co.uk/sea-kayak-courses/
Hope that helps?

Might be worth asking Skyak if they can tailor-make one for you?

Thanks to All for the replies.
I've sent an email to Gordon at Skyak about a possible assessment, and will get in touch with Nick to see if I can add the training or serve as a practice student on the Assessment.
My situation is unusual in that I'm a US paddler from Florida, so I'm cursed with warm water and benign conditions most of the time. I'm traveling in the UK from April through early June. I want to fit as much paddling as possible in to my visit. I'm already signed up for a 5 Star training with Nigel Robinson, April 14-20. I'm helping at the Sea Kayaking UK Symposium and plan on getting the 5 Star Training there. I'm taking Advanced Training with Jeff Allen, May 21-25. I'm also taking the BCU/UKCC L-3 core in April. I know; it sounds like a lot of training. It is, particularly when you consider that I've already completed a 5 Star Training in Maine.
Any way, I'd love to cap the trip off with an attempt at an assessment. If anyone hears of anything, please let me know.

Hi Michael,
It sounds like you've got plenty of training planned, with a wide variety of excellent coaches. If your travels take you through North Wales, let me know and we'll perhaps be able to work out something to meet your aims. As Taran has pointed out, I'm running a 5 Star SK assessment on 7-8 April, although this date will come too early for you.
I'm also offering a 5 Star SK training course on 2-4 April - based on Anglesey, if you're seeking further training in tidal waters.
Feel free to PM through the Kayak Essentials website, or via this forum.
Cheers
Nick

Hi Michael
Did you manage to find an assessment? I'm also looking to do my 5 star assessment, and it would suit me better to do it this side of the summer rather than in the fall. There's a small chance that if 2 of us are interested someone might be able to set up a course specifically. Might not be possible with the night nav element though.
Hope you're enjoying the paddling in the UK
Cheers
