Kayak support for a night relay swim?

Postby pete thorn » Wed Aug 22, 2012 7:32 pm

I am trying to put together kayak support for the Great Big Monster Sea Swim, from Guernsey to South Devon. Five swimmers are aiming to complete the swim (a first if they complete it) starting on 21 September and finishing on 23rd. It involves kayak support for marginal conditions and at night. There is room on the 70' Sunseeker support craft for two kayakers and kayaks, though the medic is a competent kayaker and will do some daylight cover. You need to be fit, used to night work and competent in open water paddling. Someone with 4 Star at least or completed training for 5 Star would be about right.
The plan is to travel from North Devon to Southampton on 20th, stay over, hotel provided, then be whisked to Guernsey on the Friday morning at 40 knots, before the swim starts at midday. This is all weather dependent.
I need one more kayaker and perhaps a reserve, available for those dates.
For information, google the swim, as above.
Any serious interest, please PM me or ring on 07870 207262

You are too far away for me to be of any use. If however you want any advice or hot tips on managing swimmers through the night on long distance relay challenges, get in touch via pm. I have a bit of experience of that funnily enough.

Enjoy the experience and good luck with the challenge.

There are two of us on board now and we have made space for one more paddler. This means night paddling will be three hours on and six off. If you fancy the adventure and are comfortable to be in the middle of the Channel in the dark, get in touch!

And many thanks to Mark for the valuable advice from his experience.
