Loch Lomond day trip

Postby allan09 » Sat Jan 28, 2012 8:32 pm

Had a great day out on Loch Lomond today. Mirror calm and windless. Bit cold but had no problems - first trip out in my new drysuit. Saw a few kayaks, one canoe and a few motor boats but generally no one around. Launched from Ardochly which was ok as a put in today. Had some issues with moisture/ condensation on the camera lens but here are some photos.

Hi , Great to here you had a good day out on Loch Lomond. Your last picture is off "Wee Peter" a statue of a little boy, set in the water just off bandry on the mainland and opposite the island of Inchtavannach. Modern day legands have grown up about a boy drowned here and thus remembered, but the truth though less dramatic is kinder. William Kerr was brought up as an orphan in the village of luss, and when he grew up he found his way to London where he prospered as a stone mason. The statue, originally made for a London building, lay unused in Kerr's yard for years, until it was brought to Loch Lomond in 1890. Here it was erected some fifty yards offshore to puzzle and stimulate the imaginations of generations of passers by.

Those reflections are awesome. We stopped there for a quick paddle on the way up to Mull last year. We paddled out from Luss to have a look around the seven or so islands within that 6km square or so. I'll put some pictures up if I get a chance.

Where abouts did you start, I can't place it from the pictures. (EDIT: I should read a bit rather than looking at the pretty pictures! you stated tha place at the beginning!!!)

I'm glad it worked out - I couldn't join you due to a buggy race event, looks like you had the better time on Saturday!
We did get some racing in today so the weekend was not a write off.
