Looking at Joes progress and the weather at the moment in the south west I can't see why he can't add the UK record to his trip. Portland Bill and Start Point, two dodgy areas are the ones to get by now. I estimate 70 days for Joe. From starting at Studland this morning and decent weather at the moment I think he'll push today and end up somewhere in Weymouth Bay.

Good luck to the Canoe Sailor and congrats to John Willacy.

Joe made excellent progress on wednesday in getting past Portland. Today he plans to make a short cut straight across Lyme Bay to Brixham, about 42 miles but vulnerable to the south westerly wind and 20miles from shore. He thinks 14 hours but it should be less than that. Best of luck Joe.

Doctor Martin Lee I believe will complete his trip today around 17:00 tonight.

Looks like the wind is on his back or from over his left shoulder, so Joe may not have a headwind at least. Weather not looking too bad for him to eat some more miles up over the next couple of days.

Joe arrived in Brixham at 18:30 ish after a 44 mile day of surfing across Lyme Bay. That course has taken one day off his trip and he arrived a bit salty and hungry. He's now got one of my motorhomes with hot water and 3 beds for his Girlfriend and her dad.

He'll leave Brixham 8am ish friday and paddle straight across Start Bay with the tide and hopefully make somewhere near Plymouth or Cawsand Bay hoping to get to Falmouth and the finish for Saturday/Sunday shaving a few days off John Willacy's excellent 72 days. Joe brings in some rubbish at the end of each trip and today bought some old fishing net to an old fishing town.

Great time, amazing achievement. We are very impressed. Also a great blog, we loved reading it, will miss it, now.

Congrats to Martin, who made it around the UK in 97 days, 3 days less than he planned ("100 marathons)", and a huge achievement to make it around as well in this difficult year weather-wise.

We saw these guys near Boscastle yesterday, they had left Clovelly that morning, so seemed to be still going strong despite being stuck in Ilfracombe for several days...

Not being a Londoner, knowing nothing whatsoever about London on weekdays and mindful of that sporting thing that's going on...

...how practical would a daytrip from Dorset to meet N and M at Shadwell Basin be, on Tue 31st? Would a paddle out to meet them in the last mile or two be possible? Where would one launch from?

(is Shadwell basin the place where the Kayakathon leaves from, or is that somewhere else?)

Thanks,

Shadwell Basin is http://towerhamletscanoeclub.co.uk/wiki/Location
Pretty sure that's where the kayakathon starts from (not been hard enough yet.)

London's a bit of a ghost town at the moment despite/because of the games. (Writing this from inside the olympic park; just saw the Queen.) The bus ride here was the quickest it's ever been. Can't vouch for Tuesday but you could always Boris Bike to shadwell if the tube's rammed. Probably best to avoid 3pm-6pm on the tube.

They're aiming at 1pm arrival. Not sure what time train that would require from Dorset. If you want to drive then parking is an issue. You could drop a boat at the basin, then go and hunt for a space but all the close ones are 5.30pm and later only. You'd be welcome to dump a car at mine but it's a fifteen minute cycle from there to the basin.

Michal and Natalie have asked to be unescorted for the last section so they can paddle in alone. There's quite a crowd planning to be on the beach though, and the club's planning a BBQ that night (and I'd expect a regular paddle on the Thames 7pm-8pm). I'm sure you'd be very welcome (almost like having the Queen to welcome them home?)

Might be able to fix you somewhere to stay as well (we're away, but there's probably people in the house.)

Um, I'm quite comfortable with my sexuality, so I won't take offence.

Sounds like driving is impractical, London Transport will feature in the journey, and paddling is out anyway...all of which makes the prospect less appealling. I'll have a think.

Thanks for the helpful advice.

Natalie and Michal left this morning Gravesend at 6:34am and are due to arrive back at Shadwell ( Tower Hamelts Canoe Club ) near Tower Bridge in London between 12:00 and 1pm today. They started their journey round mainland Britain 4 months ago. You can follow their progress up the Thames at homeseahome.com and click on our position.
